Forums - Nintendo - David Cox clarifies Castlevania: Mirror of Fate HD comments, dispels rumors

A few days ago, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate producer David Cox made a few comments that seemed to leave the door open to a future re-release on new platforms.

First, Cox mentioned to CVG how the game’s assets were all initially produced in HD. He later told the site that an HD version for consoles could be considered, though didn’t indicate that anything was imminent.

Naturally, Cox’s comments spread and resulted in numerous rumors. In order to clarify his original statements, Cox took to Twitter and responded to fans:

@CastlevaniaLOS -platforms. Do you think it was a good idea saying that an exclusive is probably not going to stay an exclusive?

@jimmyelgringito - Read the interview. It's pure speculation and the word "probably" is a leap on the part of you and the journalist :)

@castlevanialos Probably not the best way to advertise your upcoming game: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=511582 … ;)

@nooferu - Lol considering something and doing something are two very different things :) truth is we don't have any plans right now

Cox also flat-out denied a pair of rumors – one stating that an HD collection would be released on the Xbox 360 with Mirror of Fate, and another saying that the 3DS game will be heading to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii U.

This is important news to me, this has been one of my most hyped 3DS games since it was announced. Did not notice that this thread was created.

Okay, so it's going to them, just not right now.

Just stop. This is just somebody who has realized the stupidity of his previous comment and most likely got chewed out for it. Now hes trying to clean up as best as possible.

Can't wait to see when it flops on home consoles. These types of games does not have a big appeal on them. At least not nowadays.

However, I am still pissed that LoS 2 won't release on the Wii U, but instead on the PC, were they will hardly make as much money on as PS360. Castlevania series hardly has a fanbase on the PC.

Too late. I'm waiting for the PS3 version to not buy it.

Even though it may release on consoles I'd prefer to play this incarnation of Castlevania on a handheld. I don't care for trophies so it's not a must to get it on the PS3.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

"The reason we've first made Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate in HD to then downscale the graphics to the 3DS is because it ensures that the quality of the images is maintained. It's a common technique when making videogames. We used a lot of PC's while developing the Nintendo 3DS-game, but that doesn't mean there's also a PC-version coming.

Eventhough we've got HD-assets of the game, the game is pretty much designed for the Nintendo 3DS. It's always been our focus and intention to the release the game for that platform. We have no plans to bring the game to HD-consoles. We have no plans to create a different version. The game is pretty much designed to play with the dual screens and to use the capabilities of the 3DS.

It's not uncommon for developers to save the HD-assets of a game to possibly use them in future projects, but at this time we've got nothing planned." - David Cox, producer

I was surprised to learn that Nintendo has an exclusivity deal with Konami regarding this game. Konami says they have been very supportive of the product. So it seems that Nintendo probably moneyhated Konami for this title, they will never learn. In the past Konami didn't hesitate to develop 3 Castlevania titles for GBA and NDS, this time they've needed an incentive.

I apologize in advance for my bad english.
