I would have listed reason why it was my favourite, but you've done it for me.

I also loved the surprise when you thought the game had ended, but then you'd cross the water and check your map and see the whole of Kanto waiting to be explored (hadn't played Red / Blue at that time). The Johto reason was also my favourite region and I loved the music.

Well, I guess exploring a "new" Kanto region is pretty much equally rewarding to revisiting the region from a nostalgic perspective :P

And yes, the music is awesome. Especially Goldenrod Town, Champion Battle and Rival Battle!

Pokemon is a rare game - I usually prefer the newest game most, of those it has to be HG/SS, loved the style and it was packed with tonnes to do.

@ bolded

Where the hell do you live?

Rare as in most established franchises have their peaks and troughs... but (at least for me) Pokemon always gets better.

To be fair  you wouldnt find Pokemon in the shop around here (note the word shop), in fact I dont think I've ever seen anyone on Pokemon around here - it's a bit out in the sticks, plenty of sheep though.

Ruby/Sapphire. Absolutely amazing, the first time the series had really decent graphics for its time, loads of new Pokemon, and it felt like a fresh change from the past while still being discernibly Pokemon. I loved new designs like Wailord, Tropius, Metagross and I even still have THE same Level 100 Kyogre from my 2003 imported US copy of Pokemon Sapphire which I moved across to Leaf Green (also an excellent remake in the same gen), to D/P, to Plat, to HG and now it resides on Black.

For the record my first game was Gold, but Ruby/Sapphire perfected things. Diamond/Pearl felt a little lacking in comparison, though Black/White is pretty good too.

Pokémon Black/White 2. This is not personal opinion or on taste of pokémon design.
It is literally the most complete pokémon game. Great music, best graphics of the series, decent pokémon line-up, some cinematic moments (that portion feels like playing a pokémon movie), good storyline, great cast of characters mixing returning characters, original characters (your rival has his own agenda and isnt just focused on beeing better than you this time) aswell as anime series characters, loads of mini-games, plenty of high-level content after you're done with the storyline aswell as plenty of secrets.

There is no discussion for me, its hands down the best one.

Blue but only because Red was sold out.

Gold/Silver although I have new fondness for Black/White, but nostalgia helps elevate Gold/Silver above Black/White despite there being no doubt Black/White being the better game on technical and feature stand point.
