Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo and 3rd Party Development: Solving the Problem

The other problem was transition from 6th to 7th generation, if you look at PS360 it was highly subsidized, Sony and Microsoft lost billions U$D to remain competitive in Red Ocean, i fear that for small platform holder like Nintendo this way was certainly unacceptable and the support was uncertain.

Wii was super successful and 3rd parties were uninterested even with ports of games from previous generation

do you really blame them? ubisofts two previous efforts were ZombieU and AC3. assasins creed sold just over 100K while ZombieU sold just 320K while being bundled. and ZombieU is the third best selling WiiU game. thye obviously spent alot of money making rayman and they obviously want to make money selling the game

What? ZombiU sold over 320k just in NA. Sold around 170k in Europe.

Some times people get mad because they wait too long, most of the time they don't, because they know Nintendo will actually one day come out with it. Or at least give us some info on it. (Something that we aren't sure about with Last Guardian/VersusXIII.)

But we do have a pretty good idea what's going on with both of those games. Versus wasn't even really being worked on until relatively recently (late 2011 or so, when Nomura said "Now it's Versus' turn), and Team Ico just bit off more than they could chew and some of Sony's western studios are having to bail them out. If there's no news on these games, it's because they're still working on them.

It's not like Nintendo is much better on this front. Pikmin 3 was confirmed to be in development almost a full year before Last Guardian was.

It's the 3rd parties fault, they can't seem to handle the 3rd world problems.

He's saying that ZombiU sold 320k, not 32k.

True or not, it makes no difference.  Businesses go where the money is.  If Nintendo wants to change the situation then it's up to them.  If they want more core gamers then they're going to have to attract them, it's as simple as that.  Blame games have no place in business.

Good post, and I can't really argue with most of what you've said.  Nintendo is fantastic at some things but they're also well behind the curve in others.  From a holistic approach, they would need to improve areas like account management and their online experience besides increasing their investment in other genres if they want to steal away core gamers from Sony and Microsoft.

There's a bit of a problem with that, the core gamers probably don't want Nintendo products.

@ Bananaking
ZombiU has sold quite well for a launch title, and Ubi must have had lower expectations for AC3. It is a port that a lot of people will have on PS360, So the fact AC3 has sold around 100k in a couple of months isnt bad either.
I think Rayman would have done well on WiiU if released now, epecially with not much direct competition with a lack of games, and a lack of first party games at present.

You wrote 32k instead of 320k^^

why people keep saying Nintendo fans don't want to buy third party games? well if you tell me, i am not going to buy a Call of Duty or Assassins Creed every year. even Nintendo have 1 iteration of their old IPs once every generation.
