...but only PSASBR is a flop? Even though most of the others have had a lot longer time to sell. Or maybe the fighting genre isn't very big and also suffers from too many titles?

Yea, most of those franchises are flops too, at least compared to what they used to be.

I mean didn't Street Fighter 2 for SNES sell 8 million units? It wasn't even an exclusive either. So Street Fighter X Tekken, yea that didn't do that well.

Dead or Alive isn't what it used to be.

Soul Calibur has really dropped the ball. SC1 and 2 were amazing fighters, among the best for the time, but 3-5 really don't inovate the franchise, and yea, I'd call them flops.

Tekken Tag Team, again not the same thing as it used to be on PS1, I recall several Tekken games sold around 5 million a peice back then.

and Mortal Kombat Vita? Vita games in general are all flops, except for maybe the big 3 (Uncharted, CoD AC) and Persona 4 (which sold well compared to the other ports of the series).

As for Persona 4 Arena....Persona is a niche genre, while the game might have recieved great reviews, it doesn;t have a large JRPG/Fighter loving combined audience.

So yes, PSALBR is a flop.

I've heard a number of people blame the sales of these games on Sony's marketing. It's no secret Sony could have better marketing but this is bullshit. PlayStation All Stars flopped because it is missing essential characters. Not just Crash, Spyro, Lara. I can name probably 25 more off the top of my head that should be in it. It doesn't have enough content either. There is no other reason why this game flopped at all. Sony got it a lot of attention.

Twisted Metal flopped because it was half assed. It has great gameplay and decent multiplayer. That's about all it has going for it. It just doesn't have enough characters. I actually enjoyed the campaign overall and I had fun with it but I'd obviously prefer to have at least maybe 7 characters to play as. Out of all the old twisted metal characters only three are available. The MP is fun but doesn't have have the value to last you more than a few weeks or a month at the most.

Starhawk is a no brainer for everyone who has played the campaign. Fucking terrible. It's ironic that the director said before the release it wouldn't be a demo because it is one big demo. I gave this a shot too despite how painful it was to do. I made it several hours and maybe 5-6 missions into the game. Keep in mind I got this for free with Plus. Even free the campaign is no worth your time. Starhawk should have been a $20 MP only release on PSN. The MP is now available seperately but the damage is long done and can't be fixed after that horrible taste the campaign is.

Maybe Sony did limit the potential of all these games during development but they sure did the best they can to sell these games with all of their major flaws.

So what you want to say is, Sony makes boring, lame, bad games not the lack of good marketing is the problem the quality of their games is the problem.

Yes I am with you on this, most of Sonys own IPs are just lame, Sony should put out lesser IPs in general but therefor encourage the quality of the outstanding remaining IPs.

All those games you listed are B level games, they should all sell 1-2m. They don't because Sony does not market its B level games well. They do a terrible job with their A level games but luckily they are so good that a little marketing with Word of mouth gets them sales.

Sony sets up a self fulfilling prophecy by looking at these games and realizing they are not A level so they assume they won't sale. So they decide not to waste time and market them, then when they don't sale they prove their point.

Not to mention how 0 marketing is put towards their C level games that could still sell with better marketing like LBPK but receive no support and are sent to die. I just don't get why they green light all these projects if they are not going to support them all the way through.

Do you have also a own opinion or just rehash the bullshit views of Marcus Beer. Marcus Beer has not the slightest clue about the gaming industrie most of what this guy talks is complete bullshit.

They aren't flops, the fighting genre just isn't as big as it used to be.  DOA5 has profited with 580k shipped as someone already posted and DOA5 included more content than some of the others so was probably more expensive to make.

One can argue that maybe the genre of fighting games is now a flop.  It at least isn't a major niche the way it was.  Maybe it got played out at this point.  The kicker about All-Stars is people had expectation that it would end up exceeding the sales of all these other fighting games.  Go figure.

Its the gamers fault. All too ready to put them as part of some EPIC PS3 exclusive list....but dont show the cash to back it up.

Just my take. Something people dont want to own up to.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

PS3 has 75 million users now, but we're late in the cycle - the average PS3 customer only bought two games in 2012...and they sure as hell weren't going to buy these games most of the times. These games would have done well in 2007 or 2008 when PS3 was relatively starved for content and users were buying 4-5 games a year.

I agree, I was going to type this exact same thing. These games (along with TLOS and what ever exclusives that will come out for the PS360) are just too late cycle to have any bonified sales. Outside the super blockbusters, mid tier games are not going to set the world on fire sales wise.

PSASBR was amazing and has sold over half a million copies. Nuff said.

You know 500k units is pretty low for a AAA game right?

You know PSASBR is the best fighting game of the year?

http://gamerant.com/dice-awards-winners-journey-walking-dead/

I have to step in here.

I get it you loved the game, but best fighter from the year? That is a joke.

Soul calibur 5, Tekken tag tournament 2, Dead of alive 5, Virtua fighter 5 final showdown, Persona 4 arena.

No, it just wasnt. Sure i admit it couldve been a great game for you, but its not the best of the year, not by a long-shot.

I disagree, the fighting genre is still huge. Why else does Smash Bros continue to grow?

DoA wasn't a huge franchise, so the fact that it did okay, means that okay it wasn't a flop.

However Street Fighter X Tekken? TTT2? Mortal Kombat PSV? Yea those were flops compared to even just 5 year old games.

PSALBY...with it's long and cumbersome name was a flop. It's a Smash Bros Clone, and sold 5% as well. Compare this with other, more successful compeditors like Forza, which sold 50% as well as GT5, or Killzone, which sells 20% as well as Halo (Not a clone, btw, just a FPS exclusive compeditor).

Heck Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts sold 50% better then this and 25% as well as the original, and most consider that a flop too.

SSBB sold so well because of who is in it, the Wii got exactly one other worthwhile fighter, TvC.  Since TvC didn't sell much though despite being a great game is obvious SSBB mainly sells because it is a Nintendo game with Mario and Zelda etc characters.  The fact it is a fighter is irrelevant to its sales.

So why didn't a Sony game With Kratos and Nathan Drake etc characters sell anywhere nearly as well?

Also didn't TvC sell well considering we don't have the Tatsunoko brand in North America? Wait it did, Tvs.C was the 6th best selling Capcom vs. game ever made. It sold 65% as well as the best selling Capcom vs. game and was only beaten recently by Capcom vs. Marvel 3

I wouldn't call Tatsunoko vs. Capcom a flop since it did well compared to other games in the series and other crossovers.
