Well... FY2011 it shipped 4.5 million... the forecast to this year (FY2012) is 3 million.... ends in March, 2013.

So unless PS2 sold nothing for the past year, then yes DS outshipped PS2.

That PS2 number was released on November 21st, 2011, and it was most likely as of the end of September 2011.  The PS2 shipped 1.5 million in the next 6 months, and then an unknown amount in the last 9 months.

The DS has not passed the PS2, and it will be a fairly long road before it does (if it even happens).


Ah, stupid wikipedia editors. Gap should be even bigger than 3M then.

It never will. The gap is really small but still would take a couple years of the DS at this pace to beat it. The problem is smartphones keep getting cheaper and cheaper so the market for cheap DSs will keep getting smaller and smaller.

Sales trackers? We know DS was at 153.67M a month ago, PS2 was at that number a YEAR ago. PS2 did more than 3M last year. If PS2 is really discontinued DS still has to close that gigantic gap.



I'd be surprised if the PS2 nearly sold as much as the Vita last year, especially considering I haven't seen one in most stores since like 2010.

Why would you be surprised? It's cheap and has a LARGE variety and quantity of software titles. Vita isn't cheap and doesn't have a lot of software titles.

The DS will definitely pass the PS2 in sales no doubt. If it already hasn't. Before iPhones, Smartphones, iPads, everybody had a DS. Jock, Nerd, Normal, you just had one. Alas, Nintendo's glory days are coming to an end.
