Forums - Gaming - Activision disappointed with Wii U launch

I assume they're disappointing because they supported the Wii U with exclusives. Neither the ps3/360 had exclusive support and theres no way the ps4 or 720 will have it either.

I'm assuming Ubi develops nintendo exclusives (or used to) because they expect an explosive launch. With most other core devs playing the wait and see approach or completely avoiding nintendo's new platforms, its presents Ubi with a great opportunity to have all the lights on them at launch. But it requires they create unique experience which are sold by the concept that they can't be had on other platforms. Its probably a sub conscious thing but I think traditional gamers always pay more attention to games that are exclusive to the console they own.

This was probably Ubi's thinking when making Zombie U and Rayman Legends. Unfortunately the wii U didn't have the explosive launch needed for this approach to work.

I'm disappointed with Activision's performance on WiiU launch

I can't tell if Activision's support of Wii-U was good or not.

On the one hand, 5 games, including two of their biggest franchises (Call of Duty & Skylanders). On the other hand, all ports. But that's still more effort than the majority of other publishers have put in.

I don't think even Nintendo even have that high of an expectation for Wii U, plus it feels its release is a year too early. It could have a better tech a year from now, with its UI more polished.

The story of 2013 is going to be that the Wii U is too risky to make ports for (which should cost around $5m) while the same publishers have $50m games in development for the Nextbox and PS4.

that's only 25m per console then

Hm, I can't recall. Were all these publishers so quick to condemn 360 and PS3 launch performance?

No, of course not. They'd already invested millions in development on those platforms.

Sony got a lot of slack from 3rd parties for their weak launch, system price, and marketing campaign.

MS on 360?   Don't know.  But then MS wasn't coming off a gen leading system like Sony and Nintendo.  The expectations for 360 weren't high at launch.

I'm sure everyone in the industry would like to see WiiU performing better.

"He said that because the Skylanders series is aimed at children 6 to 11, the lackluster launch is "something we are concerned about."

WiiU is a console for kids confirmed!!! LMAO

XD

Nothing to worry about. Even if the system flops, there would be a new one. Nintendo would have to look at what went wrong, what others are doing right, and bring something new to the table.

IF, and that is a big IF, it fails... We get a new System in 2015. I can live with that.

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

Seriously? Even the Gamecube lasted longer than that, and it has absolutely abysmal sales.

OT: Activision is hardly the only dev worried right now. This is going to be an issue until fall, at least.
