Forums - Sales - PS360 shipments gap below 1M, PS3: 75M 360: 75.9M

With the latest Sony earnings results, the total shipments of PS3 as of 31 dec 2012 is estimated at 75m.

PS375.00 million as of 31 December 2012

36075.90 million as of 31 December 2012

Wii 99.38 million as of 31 December 2012

Sony did not give specific PS3 numbers, but we can assume the quarterly shipments of their console sales(6.8m) is thanks to the PS3.  PS2 last year did 0.9m for the same period and has been down YoY for many years so we can also assume it did less than 0.9m, I'm optimistic about the drop and think it shipped 0.8m, that leaves the PS3 with 6m. Sony reported 70m at the start of november(1 month into Q3), october is not a huge month of the holidays season so I'm inclined to think PS3 shipped a million(of its 6m for the q) in october. Finally, we find out PS3 LTD shipments is +-69m in Sony Q2 FY2012. Add the 6m of this q and its at 75m LTD at 31dec 2012.

Here is a useful post of ethomaz why the 75m figure is highly likely:

Q1 FY2011

PS3+PS2 =  3.2m
PS3 = 1.8m (56%)

Q2 FY2011

PS3+PS2 =  4.9m
PS3 = 3.7m (76%)

Q3 FY2011

PS3+PS2 =  7.4m
PS3 = 6.5m (88%)

Using the same PS3 ratio from last year to this year (even so I think the PS2 drop is bigger than PS3).

Q1 FY2012

PS3+PS2 =  2.8m
PS3 = 2.4m (estimated - 66.3m LTD)

Q2 FY2012

PS3+PS2 =  3.5m
PS3 = 2.7m (estimated - 69.0m LTD)

Sony reported 70 million PS3 shipped as of November 4th, 2012 * my estimate fits *

Q3 FY2012

PS3+PS2 =  6.8m
PS3 = 6.0m (estimated - 75.0m LTD)

So 900k. Should last them a good 6 months at least.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Much less than the 1.4 million you see on the frontpage here :)

Because it's shipped and we track sold to customer. PS3 needs to have more consoles in the supply chain as it's selling ~30% more per week as the 360.
In other words the sold to customer gap is bigger than the shipments gap.

Sony, MS, nor NT announce what they ship when they ship it, so they had to ship 70m before Nov. like the 3rd to 4th wk of Oct.

So are those your calculations for all 3 Quarters? and what are your estimations for the 3 quarters combined?

Is that not because VGC shows 2.5m 360 on shelves and 3m PS3 on shelves at 31st Dec?

The consoles are undertracked... that's the reason.

PS3 shipment are around 75.2m. So 700k gap between both at the moment. There is posiblity PS3 will overtake 360 this quarter, but it depends on who overshipped more in last quarter.

So about 1m difference in shipments. Each likely has a very small difference in what is left on shelves worldwide, so I think you could estimate with a reasonably high level of confidence that they are about 1m difference in total sales worldwide.

Depending on sales, games, and how their next-gen consoles are delivered this year, Sony may catch up in 2013. I am not sure how much I would go with that, but it could happen.

I believe in 6 months, unless 360 gets a pricecut.

So how are we making this thread when no one knows if it being under a million is even true or not?
