Forums - Nintendo - I think it is obvious now- Nintendo is holding offon releasing big games to counter incoming next-gen consoles

Sure thing

Around the Network

Nintendo Direct explained what all of their teams are working on. Do you think they have secret EAD teams hanging around?

3D Mario, Mario Kart, Yoshi, Smash Bros, Zelda, X Project, Pikmin, Zelda remake all for Wii U in development. What else could they have?

Nintendo have never been about countering anyone. They design hardware and software in a vacuum.

The only game I can see them holding off at the moment would be Pikmin 3. The rest that we are aware of (except maybe Super Smash Bros.) just got announced.

They would not willfully make the console sell millions below expectations.

Releasing these games will not counter anything as they are games Nintendo fans enjoy.

They need new IPs and more 3rd party renouncement exclusives to have a chance at countering the other systems.

Agreed...seeing as they dont have any nextGen competition yet.. why release/announce them now.. they will wait to make more noise when ps4720 gets announced..

Monster Hunter really hurt Vita because it appeals to the same audience that would consider buying a Vita. What do you think they'll nab to release exclusively at PS4's launch, that appeals to the same crowd? Bayo 2? I can't see that making a big impact, but it's something.

Possibly, though I've said before that I believe that strategy would be a mistake. It would have been better if they'd worked on building up a substantial installed base before the other consoles are launched.

That defeats the purpose of releasing your console first.

it is going to be mario kart u+ Super mario U combo this holiday. The next gen consoles will not have anything to counter this juggernaut combo. trust me

Bet with ninjablade:

Ninjablade wins if the next 5 multiplat on the wii u are inferior to the 360 version.

I win if one of the 5 mulitplats are on par or superior on the Wii U.

100% yes.

The Wii U will be significantly underpowered this generation. They wont be able to compete in terms of hardware specs so the key is software. If even half of the games show at Nintendo Direct launch in direct competition to the next gen console launches it will put them in a good place. Especially if they can manage a $50 price cut by then even though I don't think a price cut is coming until next year.
