I just don't believe they'd be stupid enough to release it as a exclusive title, its been a money pit so far, so developing for as many formats as possible would make the most sense. Time will tell but I doubt the market will look on SE favourably for the decision if it is exclusive.

Why do people keep peddling this lie? Going Multiplat for every title does not instantaneously equal more sales, and often times can be found as a cause for it selling/making less over all. Every single PS exclusive from last gen sold even or WORSE this gen, except for MGS ironically enough which remained exclusive. FF, Tekken, GTA,DMC,etc. Here are a couple of key points to why this is....

-F

It's not a lie, it's called common sense.  I never said it would guarantee more success but it certainly gives it more chance of being a success.  The reason those franchises suffered is they were inferior to other games released this gen and indeed their prequels in most of those cases, pure and simple.

The most successful IP this generation has been Call Of Duty, which is of course mulitplatform.....

final fantasy doesn't belong on the xbox

sales reflect that

What does that have to do with the debate we were having?  It is irrelevant.  The best selling region for FF is Japan, where the PS3 dominates the 360, of course it's sales will be more heavily loaded towards the PS3, lets not forget it was also originally hyped as PS3 exclusive and it was the superior version.  The 360 sold enough to be profitable and justify the port.  You have no point.

You're making up arbitrary rules to avoid the flaws in your argument. While I'm giving you evidence of franchises that refute your argument, you're coming out with hypothetical guesses such as your Uncharted statement. I only have to show that some titles have been successful going multiplatform which I already have thus making your original statement that I had spread a myth/lie incorrect, everything else your debating is meaningless as I've proved my original statement correct.

You've also made a tragic error picking Final Fantasy to linger on as historically it is a Nintendo exclusive originally, therefor has no deep rooted Sony exclusivity. Its also been released on PC too previously so wasn't a true Sony exclusive anyway thus making your point in this thread about the FF franchise moot. FF prior to Sony trying to buy exclusivity were multi plat and that's the way they'll be going again looking at their financials.

FF rose to the apex of its popularity and promise only on Sony console. Sony didn't try to pull exclusivity from Nintendo, they became exclusive to Sony by default because Nintendos platforms could not stay up to par with what Square Enix imagined for the product. Nintendo has been behind ever since, but Square has still been supporting them ever since. Microsoft gets the ports because their consoles are on par with Sony's, however, Versus was created to take advantage of the PS3's unique hardware. We'll see what becomes of it, because we don't know if it even will make it to next gen.

No, it rose to popularity on Nintendo consoles hence why more than one title was originally produced.  I agree that it's userbase expanded through the Playstation consoles but it didn't suddenly become a popular franchise because it was on them.

I'm pretty sure it's slipped to next gen but time will tell as you say.

Exactly, only time will tell. Microsoft has basically done a good job of mirroring Sony so people can't tell the difference so it would be a tough decision for Square not to make versus multiplat next gen. As for FF rising to popularity on Nintendo, no one ever took that fact away. It popularized the JRPG in the west. When the original Playstation launched devs and fans switched sides as well as Sony creating an even broader audience.

Maybe so, I do wonder if the internet helped with the transition of some of the cultural change.  I remember at school when you struggled to get anime in this country (UK), where as now it's a few clicks away online or you can order from numerous sites and discuss in forums.  I think the internet expanding at the time Sony were on the rise in the market is a big part of the reason the west started to accept some of the "quirky" games from the East.

OMG -_-

We should blame Sony if it's true...

In truth, the internet initially expanded very little. When Microsoft joined their internet wasn't ready, but it showed promise but the market didn't really expand for that, it was still Sony's multimedia DVD that was expanding media and gaming possibilities. Microsoft followed suit, but once Xbox Live started it slowly but surely started taking off popularizing internet capabilities and how it could expand gaming for people (Of course if you had a PC people knew better but the general market still didn't).  Sony expanded multimedia so more adults started buying consoles, opposed to Nintendo where it was mostly children in the early 90's. The internet being perfected was inevitable seeing that a western console that reflects western PC centric thinking was on the rise. Once Sony dropped the ball the door was wide open for them to take their place in the west, especially if you have similar specs and have the 90% the same games. Microsoft and Sony will be having a tug of war for years over a similar crowd.

What I meant was that in general we have changed our perspective on accepting new things from different cultures as the world has shrunk thanks to the growth of the internet.  I'm not saying there weren't other factors, just there has been a change in the way the east and west view each other in the last 20 years.

Well....the internet hasn't changed peoples minds, it just became more mainstream. People were always going to use it, but western centric sensibilities have taken over in the west leaving the eastern either catching up or not caring at all. It has now taken over the living room instead of just the desktop and also the mobile space so yes, the next big thing is always going to tap a wide market. There definitely was a change in the way the west and east see each other, where there is more respect, but they a lot of the people just don't care anymore.
