Forums - Sales - DmC BOMBA..ships 1 million copies, forecast lowered to 1.2 million

Old fans of the series are just latching onto this and going "omg see should not have changed Dante's hair". Honestly if this was DMC5 and they had not changed the formula it probably would have sold just as bad lol

Well, if you are gonna reboot series with millions of sales and large fan base, you better make the first game a god damn great one..

Take my love, take my land..

I have not idea why you would reboot a series that just came Off it's best selling game that being said, It will be interesting to see if they 1. Let them do a sequel  2.put the series to rest for a while. 3.Make the next one Dmc5.

Btw...Interesting sales "upgrade" from Vgchartz..And Hd collections have sold a lot.So everything would had gone well with just making "final Devil may cry", ending real Dante's story somehow and then reboot or make new series.

Oh and those Japan sales on DmC...

Fans voted with their wallets.

How can Ninja Theory still be in business all their games have bombed?

Is this real life? Are people this short-sighted?

Edit: Nearly everything everyone is speculating on has no source. Yes, its sales are disappointing, but to call it a complete failure after 2-3 weeks is just dumb.

Let's see, people doesn't care about this game anymore even Capcom lowered its expectations to 1.2M (less than DMC4 on PS3 alone), Metal Gear Rising is coming in 2 weeks and a month after that God of War Ascension will be released.  DmC bombed.

Not sure what these have to do with DmC. A new game in the Devil may Cry series was never going to do more than DMC4. Sequels to a game already released on the same console almost always see sales decreases. This is the rule with very few exceptions. That said, a lot of things have changed since in 5 years, and I don't think MG: R and God of War will do fantastically in sales either. DmC will likely finish around DMC2 lifetime. Not very good, but not the death of the franchise.

Its called competition.

I can't imagine someone who would not buy one game they would have bought otherwise because of an equally niche title like MG: R. God of War, maybe since it has some broader appeal. Considering the buying habits of most gamers that are targeted by DmC and MG: R, I don't think it's very relevant.

Oh man... Let's go back to the beginning. DmC was made because Capcom wanted to westernize the franchise and get some of the God of War audience, they did this in an attemp to get more sales NOT LESS, Capcom and NT failed. The game is expensive, outsourced to an UK studio that made Heavenly Sword a game that sold 1.4M and didn't made a profit. DmC had Avatar's studio mocap, Unreal engine and a quite decent marketing push.

People who want Hack and Slash will be buying GOWA and MGR in the future months ahead. Well I'm out, RIP Devil May Cry.

Heavenly Sword didn't make a profit because it was expected to sell a lot more at the start at $60. It took several years before it finally crossed 1 million and that was at bargain bin prices. You contradict yourself several times though. The game is expensive, listing Avatar's studio which you assumed to cost millions, while mentioning Unreal Engine which is widespread because it's cheap to use!

It's pretty apparent you really want to this game to fail. It's a shame because apparently the game is better than any of Capcom's efforts, so you'd hope that people who want hack and slash would buy a good hack and slash. Even if the main character isn't a silver haired pretty boy.

Unreal Engine is not "cheap", it is cheaper than making your own engine from scratch, if you are Ubisoft well then that would be cheap but Capcom already has a great engine called MT Framework which they offer to Ninja Theory (along with some Capcom employees to help them) but they prefered to work with Unreal Engine. Now there's 2 ways to buy a license for it:

1.- The full Unreal Engine licence costs around 750000 dollars approximately and it gives you the full source code which means that you can even modify Unreal Engine itself as this license is packed with all the C++ needed.

2.- Buy a 99$ license and 25% of all your profits over 50000 dollars goes to Epic.

The Japanese sales on the whole franchise post DMC2 are bad. 340k for DMC3, 430k for DMC4 and 150k after two weeks for DmC. Series is dead in Japan.

I am amazed that you guys are not mad at Capcom for creating this situation but at each other you release DMC4 not the best in the series not the worst either it sells a bucket load most in the series now that is not the result that screams to me man lets reboot this series. If they had put out the game and it was the worst DMC ever and didn't sell at all you could at least justify to old fans why the change.

Now I have seen all the drama surrounding this game from announcement till now I have to say I have not played it yet but it seems to be getting very good reviews but it does not seems to be doing it in the sales department. But the game has got a substantial share of fans that like it and want another on the other hand fans that dont like it for all types of reasons from what I have seen both valid and ridiculous.

What it looks like to me is that they have split the Devil Man Cry fan base and they may not be enough on either side of the fence for this series to continue and you know what IMO it's all their own fault.

Lesson is, make something customers actually want, not something Capcom thinks they want.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Lesson is to not change Dantes look.

I like the game. Was well worth the 10 bucks I paid. LOL.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

**SPOILERS** And the thing is that if people would not have been quick to bash his new hairstyle, they would see at the end they show his hair getting longer and changing to white. **END SPOILERS**

I for one thought the game was great and would gladly recommend it to friends.  And I will be buying the sequel if it's made.  The one thing I don't understand is the EMO comment.  The new Dante is not EMO.  He doesn't wear black makeup. he doesn't have black finger nail polish.  Him styling his hair doesn't make him EMO.  I style my hair kinda like his and I am definitely not emo.
