Gamegear was pretty cool then. I had a friend with one. I got to play Donkey Kong and Sonic on it and it really did blow the Gameboy away just by having color. It wasn't the first color handheld though and it was still 8 bit just like the Gameboy. It's crippling feature was its battery life. 6AA batteries every 4 hours. Gameboy only took 4 and lasted over 10. It's different now with rechargeable batteries built into to handhelds but we had to pay for those batteries back then. The Vita has a longer battery life and so does the 3DS with 3D turned off.

Vita is hands down way better to have.

Donkey Kong on Game Gear?  Were you sitting on the Game Gear while playing your Gameboy?

You know I was pretty young but I went with it. I'm not sure what crazy memory I have screwed up in my head but I specifically remember playing a donkey kong country on a handheld and it was not a gameboy. It was in color and everything but I know it doesn't make any sense. I might be confusing a time I was playing a SNES at a friends house. But I remember being outside. Then again this could have been a dream because I think I had a dream about Donkey Kong Country and it was really wierd and it was like on repeat of an impossible part or glitch situation where I would just run off the edge or something. Maybe I should see a doctor.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Was it really that bad? How was that even acceptable. I owned a GBC and don't remember it being a problem, guess I wasn't aware enough.

Vita no doubt. I still have my Game Gear and the thing I remember best is that it needed (6) AA batteries and ate them up so quickly. I ended up getting the battery pack that screws into the back, but it was still a battery hog. Plus the games were terrible.

I had Sonic, 3 Ninjas, X-Men (ugghh!) and can't remember what else.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I read it can last up to 30 hours in some cases.

I totes have a Game Gear I found in the attic. It sucks. I bet it was impressive at the time though.

Sorry I broke the rules, but from videos and reviews, I'll go with the Vita. If it means anything, I might buy the Vita this year.

I'm a SEGA fanboy, but this isn't a fair comparison. The Vita is definitely the better handheld.

Game Gear required 6 batteries to run and lasted 4-5 hours. It was just plain awful
