Gamecube for sure!
The Xbox 360 controller feels really good.
The Dreamcast controller had the VMU which was awsome.
The Saturn 3D Analogue controller had a fantastic joystick.
The SNES was perfect for 2D
The Genesis and Saturn had the best D-Pads of all time.
The NES controller was revolutionary
The Atari VCS controller was simple and did what it needed to do back when games didn't need anything more.
So, I'll say the Xbox 360 controller for being the most comfortable and playable and the SNES controller for being perfect for it's time.
Xbox, in fact, I even bought an adaptor so I could use it for some PC games.

It's all i use on PC lol I hate keyboard and mouse. I know I'm horrible lol I love PC games but I prefer controlers.
Gonna have to go with the PlayStation controller (DualShock or w.e it's called). Been using it for a long time and I've gotten used to it. Can't complain about it tbh.

What is the downside? just curious
I hope they keep the X360 design for the NeXbox. I want the PS3 controller updated horribly bad.
The Xbox 360 controllers are the most comfortable. But I'm on my third one right now while I'm still on my first Gamecube controller (10 years and ticking!). Plus the Gamecube controller has always been very comfortable overall anyway.
So I will say that the Gamecube controller is my favorite.
