Although Google has failed to release sales numbers on Chromebooks since launching the product in May 2011, there is some evidence that the Chrome-OS laptops have been selling quite well in recent months.

In a story filed by Bloomberg News on January 27th, Acer President Jim Wong said the company was having more success with Google’s Chrome OS (Chromebooks) than similar Windows 8 computers.

Wong told Bloomberg that Acer’s $199 C7 has accounted for between 5 to 10 percent of the company’s US shipments. However, Wong was more critical about Windows 8 product sales.

“You saw that all the marketing and promotions (for Chromebook) were not as broad as Windows 8, so to reach this success is encouraging,” Wong noted on Bloomberg.com.

Wong also indicated that early Chromebook adopters were more business professionals or heavy Internet users and that educational institutions and corporations are showing more interest in the Chrome-based laptops.

While Samsung has not divulged any sales figures, the $299 Samsung Chromebook (Wi-Fi, 11.6-inch) still remains the top performer on Amazon’s Best Sellers in Laptop Computers, as of January 28th.

I'm not surprised Chromebooks are doing well. They're dirt cheap and they have good ads with catchy, infectious songs. Customer satisfaction however...

Lol we all know acer hates windows 8 and is really mad at msft for the surface. So this doesn't mean anything

looks like acer wants to keep making netbooks.

Lenovo is probably thanking acer for their lackluster windows 8 support as their revenue and profits are higher last quarter than ever. especially in tablets and high end touch screen devices... yoga laptop is indeed awesome.

...... or mabey he just thinks that the sales are exceeding expectations. Freud once said that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, or in other words, what people say is actually what is really going on.

Of course, he could be BS'ing about the numbers that he gave bc he just hates MSFT more than any Sony or google fanboy lol, but 5-10 percent of Acer's total shipments being Chromebooks sounds good no matter who you ask.

Acer is in trouble bc they dared to call out MSFT and make a $200 chromebook? Now, Acer's year over year revenue growth is a hair over twice the rate that MSFT's revenue growth is.  But they are in trouble? lol

As to them calling MSFT out, you can't be too nice all the time

No. Acer are in trouble because they are in trouble. I'm talking financials. Going nowhere... Fast.

Its what happens when you decide to cater for the arse end of a market with cheap products. 

I gave you measures of financials over a period, you saw that didnt you?

Its good for sure. good for google and good for acer... however even the reviews stated that acer chromebooks were not very good compared to the samsung one. 3 hour battery and build quality of that laptop are terrible no matter what os the os runs. all it has going for it is the price.

problem with acer is that it is really hard for them to sell a 1000 dollar laptop. acer is seen as a cheap brand... so a beutiful touch screen windows 8 laptop like S7 that acer made isnt going to get the attention it deserves simply because its acer. Sub 500 dollar devices is what acer is known for hence chromebooks make sense... they are the only OEM that still makes netbooks afterall.
