Forums - Nintendo - Shigeru Miyamoto: Takes time to see the genuine charm of the Wii U

Legendary games developer Shigeru Miyamoto has explained to investors and analysts that it takes time to see the genuine charm of the Wii U. He went on to say that they’re looking to create games that will sell in the long run, rather than produce games that only sell well at launch. He did say that the company needs more employees internally and externally so they can strengthen their development teams.

“It takes time to understand the charm of Wii U. We are currently offering a few titles but we are aiming for games that sell steadily for the next 3 years not for games that stop selling after a few weeks. We have a lot of ideas for 2 screen play. We definitely need more employees internally and externally so we are strengthening our development teams.”

It hasn't been out 6 months. I'll give it time. Nintendo always delivers on the first party games.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

Well, I'm glad that he's aware of their problems.

Not much else to say about this.

Hearing Miyamoto actually admit that Nintendo is too small and needs to expand is a relief to hear. They've needed to this for a while now, and since Miyamoto typically gets what he wants, it seems more likely to happen this time xD.

It's only just been out 2 months in Europe, and even less than 2 months in Japan. The doom trains are certainly leaving the station pre-emptively.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

“It takes time to understand the charm of Wii U." - This is a huge ongoing problem. By ongoing I mean it'll dog WiiU it's whole life. Their best bet is to create great experiences that maximize the gamepad play and create a passionate fan base which becomes their ambassadors to the public and other gamers.

My fear is we'll have an Android tablet/console which will do it better, faster and cheaper than Nintendo, stealing any potential for WiiU's long term success. So far though, no sign of an Android console that does dual screens. But it could happen easily.

Such statements have been coming out of Ninty a lot latey, so I think they must be doing this. The only thing I would add to the statement is the phrase 'harcore games' somewhere in there.

I love My Wii U, and the potential it brings to gaming.

the times producing games in a cheap way with small teams havebalmost passed.
This may still work with 3ds games or 2d mario games and a level creator but for a great looking epic zelda game you will need around 200+men-especially when you don't licence any game engine but do everything on your own.

Pre-Mature Doom is a serious condition and should be treated as such.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo is creating its own in-house game engine that they can use for multiple 1st party projects. Would make things a lot easier on them.
