Still not sure why S.T.A.G.E. is so big on GoW Ghost of Sparta. It's a great game, no doubt. I got it for my PSP. I'm even slowly playing through it again. It came out years after God of War 2. I think GoW2 came out in 2005 or 2006. Ghost of Sparta came out in 2010! Yeah, it may have added some dimensions to Kratos as a character--and, to be honest, I still don't think it did--but saying that it must be played before GoW2 is madness!! What of the millions that played GoW2 first because Ghost of Sparta simply didn't exist?

Ghost of Sparta is a good PSP game but you can live a complete and happy life and know all you need to know about Kratos without playing it. His mother and his brother. If you're curious of there fates, play it. It's the equivalent of the Clone Wars cartoons (not the series) that came out before Star Wars Episode III--except it came out much later than GoW2. Hell, it may have come out after GoW3! I can't remember. Just an expansion of the lore. That's all.

I looked at the how many posts this thread had gotten and thought to myself that there was no way that people were simply saying what GoW games they have played and then left. I predicted an ongoing debate to be occurring and surely enough I was right.

Kratos had a justifiable reason to want to kill Zeus but GOS fills in the games as to what caused the gods to attempt to assassinate him, thus causing him to go for retribution in two.

Of course Ghost of Sparta does, that's what generally happens when you add a prequel to a story.  Adding prequels to a story without planning also causes stuff to not make sense and retcons (Not saying this is the case with Ghost of Sparta).  Ultimately to say you have to play Ghost of Sparta first after going from God of War is a bit silly as it was explained right off the bat.  Like what I'm trying to say is if Ghost of Sparta didn't exist the story would play out the same and it'd make just as much sense.


GOW 2 had plot holes at the beginning of the game and Kratos was still a one dimensional character. They never explained why Kratos was angry at the beginning of two nor why he was overthrown, he was just seen as a "threat" by his father Zeus. Again, plot hole and no identifiable motivations until the assassination attempt. It's a half assed attempt even though GOW 2 was one of my favorites. If GOS didn't exist some needed answers wouldn't have been given. I am glad they added it because it pissed me off to no end and actually affected my opinion of Kratos, but now after getting the Saga Kratos is like Mario in my eyes for Sony LOL.

What plothole?  He was pissed off the god's didn't keep their promise and forced him to be the god of war, so he started making wars.  What's there not to understand?  He was overthrown for two reasons: 1) he was causing too many wars for no reason.  2) Zeus was afraid Kratos would kill him (This was explained by Gaia), so Zeus struck first.  There's no plothole here.  Kratos isn't a 1 dimensional character, Jaffe did a very good job with Kratos' story in the first game, which sets up his pissed off attitude in the second game. 

Theres a reason Zeus was paranoid Kratos would kill him and its not just the wars. The gods knew Kratos was biding his time for revenge and was so damn angry in the beginning and soon he would overthrow them, but they knew why he was angry. The reason why Zeus had to assassinate Kratos was justified if you hadn't seen GOS, it made Kratos look like the villain and tyrant, but again, there were other motivations besides his need to start wars.

Zeus was paranoid because the evils from Pandora's Box took over, this is explained in God of War 3.  In God of War 2 they started out looking like Zues needed to kill Kratos because he was out of control and if he didn't take care of Kratos Greece would be plunged into chaos, which you find out later on in the game wasn't the case (Zeus was scared of Kratos which was expanded in God of War 3).  He was angry becasue the gods have been using him for a long time (indirectly stated when Kratos confronted Athena at the beginning of God of War 1), they wouldn't take away his nightmares (Again, God of War 1) and they forced him to be the new god of war.  He'd rather have taken his own ilfe than that, which is why he starts off in the second game off the hinge as he's still just a pawn.  You don't need to play Ghost of Sparta to understand why Kratos is pissed off at the gods, they explained enough in the first game.

The first GoW in PS2 I finished in GOD mode... the only trouble was the final boss (Ares)... for the Platinums the GoW II challenges are the worst possible.

I think GOW1 challenges are the hardest because you have to do them in 1 sitting.   I remember the first time I was playing the challeges in my PS2, and I was like "I will continue tomorrow"......and the next day, I turned on my PS2 and then I was like WTF?!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!  But still I managed to do them all....again lol

i would say that getting plat in GOW games is quite easy, which I think is a good thing because trophy whores would buy the game just for the easy plat, and the fact you have a great game to play.  I platinumed Ghost of Sparta and Chains of Olympus in 1 day LMAO! XD
