Forums - Gaming - Rumour - Microsoft insider responds to Playstation meeting; CVG sources "confirm" PS4 reveal

Looks like Ms might actually have to make some games next gen other then Halo if they believe that. Maybe spend less time buying DLC... And you know.. Make games!
If they can prove they are actually in this for the games and release games like Sony then il buy one. If its like the 360 there isn't a single chance il waist money again

The author of the article on neogaf

Hello all,

Just wanted to clarify that the source has not been altered. The quote is from a Microsoft employee but, when I wrote it this morning, the intention was to include it in the article as a small caveat towards the end. Nothing flame-baiting because that's not really my thing.

But then, a few hours after publication, it started blowing up into headlines on other websites – and of course here – to the extent that I felt the quote was becoming misrepresentative. The simple fact of the matter is that a Microsoft employee – and a very smart one at that – had offered me his opinion on the PS4 reveal and I felt that was worth including it in a piece I was writing.

But there's nothing official about it. The quote is not Microsoft, as a company, responding to Sony’s plans. That’s why I never said it was, and why it’s not a headline, and why it was at the bottom of the article, and why I was disappointed to see it as a headline, and why – to prevent further poor headlines – I changed the description to "industry insider" (which is still technically true but less likely to inflame).

Hope that helps explain things a bit. Thanks for the feedback, by the way.

Rob

This comes from the same company that bought itself into the industry from scratch, and spends by far the most on advertising?

That sounds EXACTLY like sony from 1994-2000.

You know........... that same cotporation that only had one decent 1st party exclusive during that 6 year period (Gran Turismo).

No no my dear friend, you got it all mixed up The Sony I know created probably the best 1st party games in the history of gaming, during that timeframe

They did? are you sure?

Which games are you referring to?

Crash Bandicoot? (i'm sure that Naughty Dog had not been acquired by then)

The original playstations success was all down to 3rd parties, NEVER ENDING advertising & moneyhatting.........

Tekken.

Metal Gear Solid.

Resident Evil etc.

oh, you must mean Syphon Filter right?

At first I actually wanted to take you seriously and start a conversation... but then I realized that you are still grumpy because your favorite gaming company went under like 12 years ago, and mine still exists.

If you cant think of any other games to list, you are obviously not a real gamer my frien. What are you even doing on this forum? Diddnt you hear, Crazy Taxi just released on the DC

I always get the same response when i ask that question. (because the bottom line is that it was 3RD PARTIES that paved the way for sonys success back then)

Thats what i'm saying, the sony brigade bash microsoft for lack of 3rd party games, but they were in the same situation themselves back then, talk about double standards.

Sony was never in the same situation for lack of 3rd party games.. whatever that means

and what Sony fan bashes MS for lack of 3rd party games?

somebody just doesn't know what the hell they are talking about ;)

you're trying too hard..

I'm referring to sonys lack of 1ST party games back then, hence it was 3RD party games & moneyhatting that led to their success.

you originally pretty much said that Sony only had 1 decent 1st party game from 94 to 2000 SMFH!

what could a clueless individual mean by that? you are either talking about the reviews or the sales

Sony's 1st party games got good scores back then so you can't mean that

so you are probably talking about sales

now let me explain why some people on the outside don't like and don't see TEH CHARTZ as a credible place for sales

look at Ape Escape 2(ps2) on here. The game sold over 6 million copies but how many units does vgchartz have it at? MGS2 sold more than what vgchartz has it at also but i can't remember the exact number it sold(i believe 7 mill)

now on ps1, do you remember Sony games like Parappa the Rapper? Ape Escape? MediEvil? Jet Moto? Hot Shots Golf? etc

for example... games like Parappa the Rapper and the 1st Ape Escape BOTH sold over 3 million copies but vgchartz doesn't have these games tracked at the right ltd they sold. only a few games do on here. There are even some games that are COMPLETELY missing from the ps1 library on here

The Chartz had some of these games right at 1 point but they did some kind of update to the system i guess and some games aren't fully tracked anymore

Now M$ is in their 2nd generation about to go on to their 3rd so they pretty much have no excuses for not having many ips anymore

how are you going to compare a 1st gen Sony to a 2nd gen Microsoft? Sony had a good amount of 1st party titles THAT SOLD AND REVIEWED WELL between 94-2000. Sony came with even more 1st party franchises during their 2nd time around. M$ in their 2nd time around going on their 3rd STILL don't have many ips

so i don't know where you THOUGHT you were trying to go with that 1

but whatever though..

And Microsofts studios have GROWN from original xbox to where we are now.

What? even second time around sony didn't have that many first party games (the line up had grown stronger since the ps1 days with games like God of War sure)

Going back to ps1's exclusives........... they were for the most part crap or 2nd party developed games. (those games you mentioned? come on man, were you even able to keep a straight face whilst typing that?)

Why should MGS2's sales matter to you? it's a 3RD PARTY game.

the "studios" have grown recently due to all those buyouts M$ did but the "1st party ip's" didn't really gain too much ground

they didn't have that many ips the 2nd time around? really, Ronster? REALLY? and of course you only name god of war because it's probably the only ip of that generation from Sony that you know

those games were not crap ESPECIALLY for the time they released. and of course you are now trying to write off Sony's other ips that SOLD AND REVIEWED well lol ..typical

because MGS2 ps2 is another example of a game that isn't fully tracked here

I completely agree with this. Hype rarely decides if a console is a success or not.

Depends on who's doing the hyping. If it's company based, then no. If it's society based, then yes. The PS1 was THE console to own, and it won easily. The PS2 was THE console to own, and it won without even trying. The same goes for the Wii.

It's always been about what the "it", or "cool" thing is.

Microsofts studios have grown due to buyouts? really?

Hmmmmmmmmm, i wonder how sony now happen to have many studios, oh yeah, thats right, they bought them.

Thats what i mean when i say theres double standards over at the sony clubhouse.

Sure, sony are in a strong position now, but sonys studio numbers back in 1994 were an absolute JOKE.

They bought their way in to this business just like the accused.

The same thing can be said for a lot of consoles. PS3 was incredibly hyped (excluding the $599 price tag) by fans and it had a really bad start. PSP, Wii U, 3DS, DS (not sure about this one) and Vita suffered from the same thing.

Edit: I should clarify that I'm referring to short terms success.

yes we just had a thread about it like 2 days ago

M$ had a lot of buy outs recently but i'm sure you didn't know that

yeah and Sony bought sstudios but they didn't just buy a bunch of random studios in a short amount of time. The studio usually releases games for Sony before they decide to buy them

The new MS studios haven't really made any games for M$ yet

and what double standards are you talking about?

yea you can say that they were a joke back in 94 BECAUSE THEY WERE BRAND NEW TO THE CONSOLE GAME, genius

they definitely brought there cards to the table during that 94-2000 period(yes, i'm watching closely as you are trying to wiggle off path)

they bought their way into the business like the accused? are you still talking about ips or is this just you attempting to wiggle off path? oh well ;)

if you are talking about ips then if Sony bought their way in like the accused(you have to be talking about MS) then where are the MS ips to show for it?

flamebait comment, i have seen bans for less than this all the time

Is that so?

well, if thats the case then 90% of the sony brigade on here should be banned with the way they talk about microsoft.

How many times have i heard "microsofts only decent franchise is Halo" or Forza blah blah. (answer....... many)

Anyway, the main purpose was to reply to hunter-alien, and now its got out of control (afterall, how dare anyone speak badly about the almighty sony right?)

I will leave it at that.

"Victory will go not to those who make the most noise, but those who make the most impact,"

Wow. I'm surprised to hear that coming from a Microsoft employee. Considering most of Microsofts success has been due to hardcore advertising and giving the 360 more perceived value by getting people to believe it's the "cool" console.

Oh well. Until they learn to make games in more than one genre ( ie. shooters.  Being proficient in one genre -- and not a very substantive one at that -- doesn't equate to much substance) and quit producing Kinect Baby food, Microsoft's not going to be winning any gen.
