I keep getting notices of malicious websites being blocked from bittorrent. But I haven't had any issues with bittorrent and I'm not even downloading any torrents now.
Edit: I had one torrent which I removed.

Could be a corrupt user profile if you're on Windows 7. Try creating a new user account then test if you get the same issues. I've seen printer drivers cause issues like this too so you might want to try uninstalling and reinstalling updated printer drivers (if available).

Have you ever cleaned your registry? If you install a lot of programs/games you can be left with a messy registry that can slow down your computer. CCleaner seems to be a popular program for cleaning your windows registry.
Try all the spy/maleware cleaners and if that doesn't help try cleaning the registry. If that doesn't help back up your files & do a clean install of windows.

ccleaner is the great.. i almost sugested that one.

Malwarebytes detected some registry key issue and removed it. That's all it found. I'm trying to do a scan with AVG but it's not moving at all. I can't even pause or stop the scan. But my computer isn't running slow so maybe it's avg.

It didn't find anything. It just blocked a few sites. Any help is appreciated. I have no idea what is wrong. |
Malware and spyware are basically the same thing. If you didn't run the scan all the way, you can't expect it to do what it's supposed to if there is anything there to find. Is this the same machine you asked about in another in this thread? Is it possible you are just running a little too much in the background? I was looking at your processes...10 or so processes open for Chrome? Is that like 10 tabs of Chrome open? The memory usage by Chrome doesn't seem like it's anything unusual... no different than my Firefox after I've been on the web for a while. I've seen mine go over a gig of RAM easily... I also see some processes in your background that don't seem necessary. Like PC Doctor? Did you download that to try to fix your problem? Some of those downloadable fix-it programs are actually spyware in disquise...
MalwareBytes will find it and clean it for you... if there is spyware. I like Spyware Blaster because it does block it, but it's passive protection (i.e. innoculations) so it doesn't run constantly. Spybot also does the same thing as Malware Bytes (and does innoculation), but they've changed the program a lot and I haven't had the time to look at it yet since I've used it... I just use Malware Bytes now. I did notice they added a better resident scan program (active scan).
Quick question though... What do you mean by slowdown for your computer? You mentioned CPU usage of 5-10%... that's perfectly normal usage. A spyware problem would look more like if the processor gets bottled necked at the drop of a hat and if your windows are freezing for long periods of time, etc etc... If it's a mobile processor like you mentioned in the other thread, it's not going to have nearly the oomph or staying power of a desktop because of the CPU. ESPECIALLY when multi-tasking. 6MB of RAM won't fix a thing if the CPU can't keep up. It will help things run a little smoother when trying to get programs back up after minimizing them, but overall the CPU could still be a bottleneck.

Google and see if other people are complaining about AVG being a memory hog. If you think it's AVG, try Avast (also free). I stopped using AVG a long time ago. Avast was just much better....
Here is what I run.
I use Microsoft Security Essentials/Microsoft Defender (Windows 8)
I use IE 9/10 with an Ad blocker.
I use µTorrent for torrents.
For starters, run HitManPro 3.7. You must be connected to the Internet while it runs. Download it from here:
http://www.surfright.nl/en
You'll be given the option of running it for a single instance, or paying for a license and using it as your default AV software, just use it for a single instance.
Keep a copy of this on a USB stick, if you ever get infected it will become invaluable.
Backup any of your personal data before you run the scanner. Though take note if any of your personal data files are infected when the scanner does run. If there is an infection of your Master Boot Record (MBR) it's possible to lose everything on the drive. So take time to backup your data.
Next, unless you have an immediate need for Java, uninstall Java. The US Department of Homeland Security is currently advising all US computer users who do not need to have Java installed or running to either disable or uninstall Java. You can disable it through the Java control panel or Uninstall it through the Add Remove Programs/Programs and Features control panel.
Next, uninstall any toolbars, especially if you don't need or use them.
Finally, the next time you are prompted to update your "movie player" don't. A very sophisticated bit of malware is going around masquerading as a Flash Update. Don't fall for it.

I have no idea what PC doctor is. No I only have one tab for chrome. My computer will run fine for awhile and basically it randomly freezes up. I was watching a video and like every few mins or at least half way through it will suddenly freeze up. Then it takes like 7 mins until I can play it again.
I did just notice when I went to this site it was instantly. Whenever my computer has been running well recently there would still be like a second where things take to load. I'm hoping malwarebytes found the issue and got rid of it. I have Microsoft security essentials. Should I run that?

Is this the same computer in the other thread you mentioned, your laptop? It could be a program you are running or it could be video related. I've had had issues with flash and video mucking my laptop up. I updated the video card and it helped tremendously to stop the freezing. What particularly are you doing when it freezes... are you using the browser? What is normally open?
How long have you had this computer? And how long since the last Windows install?
No. I could be doing anything and it would slow down not just video related. I've had this since last summer. I restarted my computer and my laptop did a check for problems. It deleted a bunch of errors and other problems. Not a problem since.
