Forums - Gaming - Visceral doesn't want Dead Space 3 to be better on PC

You're right, because PC gamers don't flock to the store to buy games. The sales are mainly digital. Thus, you don't know what it would sell for a certainty.

Thankfully, other devs know this and don't make the same mistake, because it is pointless to bring an exact port over to a machine that can do so much more . Bioshock Infinite, for example, is doing things specifially for the PC version (and don't talk about money, when Visceral has a publisher like EA backing them). Crytek (although they almost lost a chunk of their audience with Crysis 2), and DICE both offer the PC gamer something for their platform.

It just means Visceral could lose some fans here (I'm not one of them, but a few of my friends are skipping this game because of that, among other things).

Graphics don't matter. a pc gamer will buy a game on pc because he is comfortable with the controlles and everything. half the multi-platform games are always better on 360 but i buy them on the PS3 because i'm used to it.

So what you said is completely wrong.

I don't think it would be a waste but the pc version is gonna sell the least so I think thats a part of it. As long as it is as good as the console versions it shouldnt mater every game thats on pc and consoles doesn't have to be so much better looking on PC some developers may not the see the point or just don't have the time.

And it's that attitude that will cause more PC gamers not to pick it up.

That's your opinion. One could say that because pc-gamers buy less games extra effort for porting to pc is a waste...

It's not an opinion if people are already saying they won't pick it up because of what's happening here. Also, I keep hearing that PC gamers "buy less". Any statistics that prove this?

I don't know how good the tracking of sales and especially the tracking of digital sales is but looking at the numbers of this site console-games sell more than pc-games. Yes, there are games like diablo3 which sell a lot but this is a huge peak in a graph.

It is even hard to measure what pc's are gaming pc's. I think we can agree that by far not all pc's are even able to run recent games when considering all pc's still active out there. The pc ppl need to "work" or go browsing with their pc and what a gaming-pc demands grew wider the last years and it will continue the next years.  Alsp pc's get outsold by notebooks, notebooks by tablets... the market is shrinking. So the target group is also shrinking.

I don't want to start a war console<->pc this is useless. Everyone should pic his/her fav gaming-system. But numbers don't speak for pc.

Hmph, no reason to buy it for PC now. Do they even want our money?

They added microtransactions to the game, maybe there is no reason to buy it for any platform. They want our money and that is all.

Err... I would advise you to read it again. Then, tell me how I'm "completely wrong".

Stop acting like graphics alone will sell a game to PC players.

And i know you understood what i said. You don't have to be right all the time, Dude!!

Without all the necessary data, it's guessing at best. There's no argument that the console versions will sell more, but a bit besides the point. I mean, really, there are things that are causing people from all three camps not to pick up Dead Space 3, but in the case of the PC, it's all that + being told there will be zero difference to that version and the console versions. No, they don't have to make the game 10x better on PC, that would be a waste, but even a slight incentive can go a long way.

There's no need for them to worry about me, I'm picking it up regardless, I'm just saying the marketing is really not in its favor.

Are ppl really that influenced by marketing? I mean the games itself isn't worse, is it? Somehow I can understand that the pc-ports get even worse but I don't know how to get the situation out of the vicious circle... Perhaps in a few years the topic doesn't exist anymore.

I honestly planned to buy either the PS3 or the PC version of the game. Since they decided to not improve anything for the PC version I won't get this one. I also won't buy the PS3 version, I simply can't support the inclusion of micro-transactions in a $60 game.

I think I'll get it used some day or just copy the game from a friend.

Sorry EA, I really enjoyed Dead Space 1+2 but I won't support this buissness model of yours anymore.

1:1 port is a lot cheaper for them-thats the reason. They don't waste money on new effects, high res textures etc.

That's why I think(that they think) it is a waste of money(for them)

PC version is gonna sell least because of piracy. Why spent money for the least selling version and make this version the best?

Piracy gamers will never buy this game,no matter whether optimized or not. Those pc gamers who will pay for this game are against piracy and will buy it anyway(why waste money?) and they have no reason to complain as the PC version will still be superior  and they will never know how much better an optimized version could have bee.

DS2 looked just fine on PC despite being a dx9 game. As long as I can play it at least in 1920x1080 and with my mouse and keyboard i'm fine with this. Next gen is around the corner so it should be the last time we hear an excuse this silly anyway.

Dead Space 1 was an ok port. I remember shadow glitches and a lot of aliasing.

DS 2 was not good. NG+ system and special weapons were not there and the patch that added them just plonked them in the item shop for free...

Not going to bother with DS3 on the assumption that PC gamers will get the short end of the stick again from Visceral.
