Well, to be honest in most Shops I have been in Austria the Wii/3DS is marketed to Kids and the kiddy games have much showroom. And as you grow up you swap over to the Playstation for Fifa, Gran Turismo, etc.

It is funny how times have changed. Few years ago when I was going to work by Bus I saw the kids playing with their Nintendo DS... Nowadays they all have a smartphone and toy around with it (videos, Music, etc). I had to laugh last week when I heard two kids arguing how GAMELOFT is the best game company of the world...

LOL! Man, that's just so sad!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

The UK is full of strange folk. They always preferred Sonic over Mario.

In the 2D days Sonic was better than Mario so it was only natural. :P

Unfortunely 3D came after that and all changed.

I disagree with you with a magnitude so enormous that it's not even funny. Not funny at all.

Oh? So you think 3D Mario is worse than 3D sonic. Weird opinion indeed. :D

I jest, but you will never convince me mario was better in the 2D days. Sonic was the reason i got into gaming, and SEGA was the best company ever in terms of quality software, unfortunely quality and sales dont ever go hand to hand.

I do like 2D Sonic though. And it's definitely original enough to rightfully co-exist with Mario. I just don't think Sonic's gameplay lends itself to a 3D environment.

Unlikely, but that's because no console after this generation will ever be big in the UK again. It's a simple fact, really. Only thing keeping the market alive is FIFA and COD, and sooner rather than later they'll fade into obscurity.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Wii, Gameboy, DS and 3DS have all enjoyed success there... I see no reason why WiiU won't, especially once MarioKart is released.

I think the next gen Xbox will do really, really well in the UK. Same goes for the PS.

FIFA and CoD arent the only games that sell well in the UK. A lot of games sell over 500,000 units. Its just 2012 was a relatively poor Year for new SW. Look at the Top 50 of 2012 and 2011.

34 out of 50 in 2012 were 2012 releases
45 out of 50 in 2011 were 2011 releases

This Year will be pretty big in the UK, Software-wise. 2014 will be a huge breath of fresh air and Xbox/PlayStation will both sell really well if priced right.

So even with this huge 3DS year coming up You think U.K will seriously look the other way?

I do, the market is moving on. As you and Carl are suggesting, this year could be the turning point and may help the market due to the sheer amount of SW coming out for pretty much every console relevant to the country (bar maybe the Vita).

However, if the next-gen systems are priced higher than £400 then I don't see them taking off at all. The key is the pricing, as Carl says. £300-£330 and I can see them being quite moderate hits. And obviously FIFA and CoD are pretty much single-handedly holding the industry here alive. No doubt GTA and Pokemon will help this year though as well.

I saw that we blame all of this on Conegamer. He hasn't told enough of his friends about Nintendo's New Console and how it's totally different than the Wii. Chop chop, Conegamer!

A lot of my fellow UK gamers i know only own 2 games, COD and Fifa.

I can only judge from what I've seen, but I think the dedicated Nintendo fans have died down a lot here. I personally only know one who didn't transition over to another console during the Wii, and he hasn't even bothered to get the Wii U yet (he definitely will though, it's just he got a new PC and has a 3rd party backlog to catch up on).

I haven't got one, and I doubt I will. I prefer playing on consoles for a bit before getting my own, and not letting people log on to the Wii U with their own profile is a big turn off for me. Then again, I have a pretty big soft spot for 3D Mario and Zelda games.

Is this really only a UK thing? I kind of assumed it would be happening everywhere.
