Outside of maybe it being the thing to do, because it is always what you do, if you are eager for next generation to start, why are you?  What are you hoping to manifest that it gets you to open your wallet and buy?  How important, for example, is 1080P in 60 frames per second to you?  Do you feel your gaming life is incomplete.  Or. what do you know, or believe is coming out, that motivates you to want to get a next generation console?

Higher resolution, or what else can you describe you expect to get next generation you aren't now?

No.

I am content with this generation and unless something ground breaking that really gets me excited I could easily see being fine until 2015/2016 range with current consoles. (For reference I got my PS3 in 2008).

The only time I was begging for a new system was the PS2 era when I wanted to leave the PS1/N64 as soon as possible.

I'm not exactly eager for new consoles. Personally, I'm pretty satisfied with what I've got and this year is a damned good one to be a PS3 owner, so I'm not really in the market for a new one. At the same time, they're coming whether I want it or not, so I'm pretty eager to see what's in store for the PS4 as I'll likely have to decide between it and the Wii U for next generation.

Better graphics (which really isn't just higher resolution), better physics, better multi-tasking which opens up new features/combinations of features (in-game browser, cross game chat for PS/Wii U). It increases excitement among consumers, and I imagine it's the same for developers... if you've been working on the same machines for 8 years I'm sure things can get a little dry for some. New, more capable platforms spark enthusiasm. New generations bring general change, so it just keeps things fresh.

And this is only stuff I know will likely happen, I'm really looking forward to the unexpected things as well.

First of all, new innovations. Each console has some kind of new hook when it comes out generally. Wii had motion controls, ps3 had blu ray, 360 had an online focus, wii u has the tablet controller. I'm excited by the possibility of something new coming into play that can change the way I play and bring about new and interesting types of gameplay.

Secondly, new IP's. A console launch is typically an ideal time to launch a new IP so there is always a lot of new IP's launched at the beginning of a consoles lifecycle. While I love all the gears and uncharteds of this generation, I'm excited to try something new...

Thirdly, better graphics, not that big of a deal, but it is nice to have...

Fourth, I'm a sucker for new technology.

I am keen for several reasons, Naughty Dog games with better graphics as well as other good new things from the new consoles that you would expect

In general, it is not the new graphics on the consoles games, but rather the even better graphics on their PC ports than interests me, because my graphics card cost as much as the PS4 will cost at launch (hopefully more!) and I intend to get a second one

Well, I think I've said it before but... Nintendo abandoned the Wii now. I want them to get started on next generation because of that. Simple!

1) Better Specs - Things are getting outdated on consoles

2) New Interfaces and Hardware allowing new gameplay ideas

3) New and innovative games that the market is more willing to accept (hopefully)
