Continue to reign in the excesses of the Zelda (on schedule and scope) and Mario (on story) teams, and hopefully extend that to Metroid.

I want him to find his true successor, I'm pretty sure he's searching for one, but one who he can pour all his experience and knowledge on.

Of course finding such talent will be almost impossible, but I want him to be a teacher for the younger generation of developers, and hopefully find that 1 person who he believes has the potential to surpass him.

And then years after he retires, watch his protege rise to the top of the gaming world; just as he himself did.

Finally, to meet with his student, at a press conference or a public meeting, and announce to the world that the student has surpassed the teacher. There would be no greater joy in my life.

Make a new IP that is on par or exceeds Mario/Zelda etc. He did it more than once, he can do it again.

I don't think he actually worked on them. But I know that he regularly visited Retro Studios to check on their progress and give them ideas. Or at least in regards to Metroid Prime. I have no idea about Other M.

i was going to say "make a new ip that i would hold in as much admiration as i currently do for zelda and metroid".    but your answer is really good too.   maybe i'll hope for a new fps IP.
