I liked it too, mostly because I adore giant monster movies. Actually, I should add that: the 28 Japanese Godzilla movies, all of which I own. Not many people can appreciate their mix of cheesiness and socio-political commentary. I hate the 1998 Hollywood one with a passion, but I have high hopes that the new one slated for 2014 will be better, as it promises not to bastardise the character the way the 90s one did.

While I haven't seen ALL of them I do reallly like them too.  Espically the first one - I prefer the Japenese version over the Enghlish.  It really examines the horrors of living through and atomic bomb blast.  Also, I like Final Wars a bunches too.  I got to see it in Hollywood with a bunch of fellow fans - it was a great night.

As far as Godzill 2014 - have you watch "Monsters" from the same director.  I think he is really good and have hope it will be interesting.

Yeah its ironic that  while Godzilla films are mostly seen as cheesy (and most of them are, though to me lovably so) the original was a very dark and serious film about the horrors of atomic warfare. My fav would have to be the 2001 entry, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters all-out Attack. (Or GMk for short, they do love their long descripive titles!) The 1990s Gamera trilogy by the same director is awesome as well.

I haven't seen Monsters yet but it's on my to-do list.

Crash is one that comes to mind. Sure its cheesy and far fetched at times, but its still a well made film with a good message.

Megamind is solid! Good voice acting, very funny, and I like the way it subverts the traditional superhero storyline.

@OP: I can't think of any film I love that everyone else hates off the top of my head. I don't love Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but I would give it a passing grade. So maybe that's eligible. Oh, and Prince Caspian. Although my friends don't hate it; they just think it's OK.

I don't get why people give it flak for being unrealistic; did they not watch Temple of Doom, where a guy stays alive after his heart is ripped out, and a woman survives being suspended a meter above molten lava?

What was wrong with Cars? :/

Nothing was really wrong with Cars. It's just that Up was leagues better.

No it was not. Cars was far superior to Up, and considering how mediocre Cars is.... Up is one of the most overrated, overadvertised animated movie I have ever seen. It BORED me to death.

OT: Seeing just how poor taste the overall viewer has, I will go with Prometheus. Best western sci-fi for the last 30 years or so. Anyone who disagrees, can go and suck my tiny yellow balls ^_^ Nintendo takeover style
