Does a game's box art really help its sales?

Yes 70 85.37%

I know the box art helps its sales, but it doesn't change whether or not I buy games considering I buy games based off of things like reviews, trailers, etc.

People who buy from retail stores definitely look at games and see the box art and many times I see certain ones pique peoples' interest.

lol never heard of mega64

You poor soul. Please do yourself a service and watch this right now.

Then watch this.

Finally, make yourself sit through this. I know it's difficult, but the payoff is worth it when you watch this afterwards.

Welcome to Mega64.

Yes, for kids and perhaps uneducated gamers.

Why do you think New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold so much?

Red is an emotive color, and also influences people to buy more stuff. Just look at Macy's.

No i think it was because it had the words "Wii" in the title. Jay520 did a pretty comprehensive thread on that.

It can be the eyecandy that gets a casual to buy a game.  So yes to some extent.

It might....but has no bearing on whether I will buy the game or not

Yes, but good box art doesn't directly help sales. Bad box art hurts sales, so if you want to reach your sales potential then having good box art will ensure people aren't put off buying.

But there really no difference between good box art and awesomely amazing box art.

And great art doesn't make great box art. The Mona Lisa would make crap box art for CoD Modern Warfare 1,000,000.

None of the pictures in the OP made me want those games, they did the opposite. Especially when you see how similar they are to each other. It's just boring.

But no, I don't think Box art sells a game. If the Box art is good it might catch a person's eye, but I doubt the person would decide to buy the game just because of that.

Well I myself have bought a game just because of the boxart a couple times. Usually because of the artstyle.
