Forums - Nintendo - Aliens: Colonial Marines delayed on WiiU, being outsourced.

Last night Gearbox Software announced that Aliens: Colonial Marines had gone gold on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. But there was no mention of the game on Wii U.

We asked Sega what was going on. The publisher told us the Wii U version is due out in the Wii U launch window which, technically, runs up to the end of March 2013.

Sega reiterated it had never announced the Tuesday, 12th February date for Wii U. That worldwide date only ever applied on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Gearbox Software isn't developing the Wii U version of Aliens: Colonial Marines. That responsibility has fallen to Demiurge Studios

Wasn't expecting this, I guess we will have to wait until the second half of the year to actually see a big multiplatform game being released simultaneously on the WiiU and the HD consoles. This probably seals the game's fate.

Not good for the Wii U. If the outsourced port isn't as good it will tank. Being last means everyone with more than just a Wii U will already have it. If the game doesn't live up to the hype the Wii U will get the worst sales thanks to the early warning. Everything would have to go in Nintendo's direction for this to be anything but bad for the Wii U.

wasnt this game supposed to be better on the WiiU?

This is why other games for 2013 don't have WiiU ports. They were all started well before WiiU dev kits hit the market. Each one would require whole new teams to accommodate a new platform, especially one that they have no kits/experience with.

Gotta wait for new games that started/start with final wiiu kits from the onset.

And so the weak porting begins.......

Old news.

The game will tank regardless of the quality of the port. It's just mind numbingly idiotic to not release all versions at the same day or at least in the vicinity of each other. The game will enter the market when the vast majority of demand has been satisfied and on top of that it will be the most expensive version at that time.

I had a pre order running on the Wii U version just in case the game releases at the same time but I cancelled it a few days ago. Third parties will not get full price from me for late ports, period. I'm still gonna pick this game up for Wii U, at bargain bin prices. Same goes for NfS: Most Wanted and every single other late port. The Cave releases simultaneuos for every platform and thus I will reward this with my money.

Third parties, step your game up or get the fuck out.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Well I hope Demiurge Studios does as good of a job with the Wii U port as they did with the ME1 port for PC. The improved inventory system was a godsend in the PC version.

It´s a vicious cycle.

at the end of march? wasn't march 1st?

No it was end of March, also known as the end of Nintendo's fiscal year.

Though the information of the developer's job on the ME1 port for PC is a little heartening. The quality of the port depends on the developer and the relationship they have with the owner of the IP.
