Forums - Gaming - WiiU launch ports

There's nothing wrong with old ports for those who have never played them. It's just for that vast majority of people who those games would appeal to - they have already played them on 360/PS3 or could for a lower price.
The WiiU versions just aren't different/enhanced enough to make getting a WiiU worthwhile. It also makes little sense for WiiU owners to start Mass Effect at 3, especially when the full compiled trilogy were being released on other systems.

Ports like AC3, CoD:BO2 are better of course, and not enough of those were available. (No Far Cry 3, Dishonoured, etc)

WiiU had great quantity of games available at launch, but for most gamers, the selection was still limited to NSMBU/Nintendoland

I'm happy with the launch, but I also skipped games for my PS3 I knew were coming to WiiU. (granted I haven't bought BatmanAC yet... but I will soon)

I agree, New Super Mario Bros. U is pretty enticing.

Err I have seen the comparisons, Darksiders 2 looks like a bad port. ME3 and Batman are a year old, most people already played it on PS360, its not an incentive for those owners to go get a WiiU. The ps3 didnot get year old 360 games after its launch.

I own Darksiders 2 on WiiU, and i would say it is deffo on par with the other versions. Maybe even slightly sharper looking on WiiU , all versions suffer from some sort of screen tearing at times.

I got Ninja Gaiden, too. It was tough buying that game for $60 when the collector's edition of the 360 version (not sure what was in it but the box was huge!) was only $29. Same with a lot of games. Still good games but more expensive on the Wii U.

Many Wii owners were multi-console owners. I hope the majority were otherwise the missed out on some of gaming's best gems. With that, wouldn't it be fair to assume that many Wii U owners likely already own consoles capable of running Wii U's best titles already?

As a Miiverse fan like yourself, When i read the comments about Arkham City etc. I get the vibe that the players are really wowed by the games, As if they are experiencing them for the first time. I suspect there are people with WiiU that were Wii only owners last gen.

Well most of the ports were simply inferior to the 360 and PS3 versions. Some of them are quite old already, so a $60 price tag is probably a bit much too.

Yeah, that's obviously true.  But when you consider how many people are in the communities (thousands) and how the games are actually selling, I still think that a lot of people fit the other category, as well.  I mean, look how many people post about Xbox 360 and PS3 in Miiverse.  And my Wii U alone has four different accounts.  At this point, it's hard to tell if most Wii U owners were Wii Only last gen.  I still suspect that most were owners of at least one of the "HD twins".

I can definitely see where you're coming from. If you were a Wii-only owner and you don't mind paying full price for games that were up to a year old, then you could definitely get a lot of enjoyment from the Wii-U's launch line-up. Unfortunately, that class of people is probably just ridiculously small, so unless you fall within it, the line-up just wasn't that impressive.

At least Nintendo nailed down three decent games to entice people in ZombiU, NSMBU & NintendoLand. Having an only-slightly-late port of Black Ops 2 was nice as well.
