Forums - Sony - If the PS4 is not B/C with the PS3's purchased online wares, I will need to be compensated.

But my xbox 360 failed, ps2 failed, and PS3 likely will. w/o backwards compatibilty I probably won't buy a PS4 (Sony is under no obligation to make it B/C, but I'm under no obligation to buy it).

All things man-made especially those that are mechanical or electrical in nature is prone to fail eventually, when you buy something like this, you should expect it to fail eventually.

If Sony and Microsoft can get backwards compatability working via a console addon or inclusion of the prior consoles processors or even in software, then great, I know allot of people who moved from a PS1 to a PS2 because it would  still run all their PS1 games, so it's obviously a feature many people wanted and helps lock in paying customers to a certain platform.

I hope they have 2 SKUs.  One for $399 with no BC to sell more, and one for $450 with BC and possibly a larger HDD.

Or you could just keep your ps3?

When I want to play ANGRY BIRDS on my new IPHONE, do I need to keep my old IPHONE 3G or GSto play it?

When I buy a new computer, and when I want to play HALF LIFE 1 & 2 from Steam, Do I need to break out my old rickety computer out of the ol garage to play those games?

When you buy a mac, can you run all of your steam games?

Different platform, different code.

the best way for sony to go would be a optional B/C through a hardware expansion port.

basically you plug in a fully functional PS3 in the form of a seperate module.

that way the can keep basic model cost low and everyone can get the B/C later if they want it.

agree with everything except the later part.  They should have this at launch.  Also hopefully PS4 has a usb on the back so I don't have to look at some big expansion port in my entertainment center.

with "later" i mean you don't have to buy it with the new console, you can get it whenever you want.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

oh ok I agree wholeheartedly then.  The preferable method however would be including BC in one SKU for $50 more than the other one for convenience sake.  I'm thinking $400 basic with $450 BC model (possibly bigger HDD as well).

i still try to put my n64 cartridges in the newer nintendo consoles but it doesn't work, i think nintendo has to compensate me for this, i bought it for n64, it is my good right that it has to work for wii u...

that's how i feel sometimes when people complain about something they bought for one console and can't use on another one. if you can play the games on another console it is awesome but if not it is nobodies right to get compensated for it.

Terrible analogy.

Of course you can't play WINDOWS BASED games on your MAC.

Terrible analogy.

I hear what you're trying to say, but we're only talking about B/C for digital based games....the digital based games that were purchased.

Backwards compatibility for digital based games, for all intent and purpose is pretty much an industry standard.

You agree to terms and conditions. So Sony can do whatever they want.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

PSN games including PS3 digital-only releases should be playable on PS4. That is what we need from Sony . So I guess it's better to wait for the official updates on B/C from Sony.
