i mean, these sales arent surprising, ive seen sales of past consoles before this and they were very similiar. why is evryone in the media losing their s***s over it?

Because that's what they do pretty much every time. They make unreasonable expectations of a product, and then when the product doesn't light the world on fire, it's branded a catastrophe immediately. This is amplified by the fact that the Wii had such remarkable success early in its life.
The same thing is going to happen when the 720 and PS4 come out. For now though, just relax, don't take it too seriously, and wait when the games for Wii U start coming in. If the Wii U is in the same situation it is now in a year, then maybe hit the panic button.
Well if it's the media your talking about, they love cutting things down and they love stories of doom and failure. Remember the old saying 'never let the truth get in the way of a good story'.
Also, I suspect a lot of video game journalists are just as big obsessives over things like brand loyalty as some of the people on these boards meaning they revel in the possibility that a rival console appears to be doing badly.
They're not very good, but yeah nothing to worry about. The gaming media will make sure everyone thinks that way though, doom articles are easy hits.

This pretty much says it all.
If by this time next year the console is only around 6m WW, then we'll talk about the console flopping. Personally, I believe it'll be way more than double that.

Which is going to get more clicks? Even the forum topics here, the more absurdly tilted, or outright tilting, the more posts......
Sorta. I mean we have seen many records broken and then suddenly then "not"... it's something we don't like to embrace in America, which is "failure" of any kind. To me, the sales are good enough.
I plan to buy one eventually, but I don't buy things at launch normally... I went to Walmart and the case was packed to the brim so it's not like I have to worry about a shortage either.
I think the sales are fine. But the doom articles are popular, get lots of views and I think that's one of the reasons why they are written.
PS3 was called a failure for months after it launched. Almost a year after launch it was still faultering. It wasn't till they got a major system seller (GTA4) that it took off. Now it's surpassed the 360 in WW sales. I am not worried about it in any way whatsoever.

Because its the media and the likely do everthing to get as many hits. And i say it everytime lets wait for one year of sales before juding a console doomed. We have e3, gamescom, tokio game show and many other events to bring up hype for the console. Not that Wii u sales are good or Nintendo isnt in any trouble but a lot can happen in one year.
