Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is it really the wiiU who performed poorly? Or are we just starting to see the beginning of the end of dedicated gaming consoles?

Title says it all, discuss :)

I am interested in reading all of your opinions.

EDIT: I meant can the poor performances of the wiiu be explained by the fact that people aren't so much interested in next gen dedicated gaming consoles.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

its nintendo... and they will bounce back... up
...... i think

58 days in USA, 46 days in Europe, 38 days in Japan...
2.52 millions of consoles (and we don't have last days data yet).
2 million sellers (already): Nintendo Land and New Super Mario Bros. U.
Wii U is just fine.
So... no end of dedicated gaming consoles. :)

I'm not actually sure what you are trying to say in the title...

Someone has to come out with one of these devices that kill dedicated consoles and I haven't seen it yet. The games are just too good. If anything, it's going in the other direction, with game consoles taking over multi-media functions.

Except in Europe, I wouldn't say the Wii U is performing poorly, but rather that it's performing to the level of the games it has. Software is still the most important aspect. If the next gen systems have tons of great games and are still selling at a low rate, then call me.

I think you meant adjusting?

Anyway the Wii U is selling as I'd expect based on its library. Once it gets some more games, sales will pick up.

Not sure if this the answer you're looking for...but anyway:

Hard to say without knowing what Sony and MS are planning for their next gen consoles. What I do see is low sales at the beginning of both consoles, mostly because people will stay with the PS3 at the 360 for a while, especially since at least 1 CoD game will be on those consoles (Modern Warfare 4 perhaps).

Most of the times only the core fans of the company are the ones who buy a console at launch (PS2 and Wii are the exception). Both the 720 and PS4 will need a lot of games coming regularly in order to justify the price of a new console (which will most likely be $350+), and that includes more games than just first party tittles, and third party games that are not ports of 360 and PS3 games.

This doesn't mean the dedicated gaming consoles are going down or anything, although with how much emphasis next gen consoles are having with multimedia features it will be kinda hard to judge them as "dedicated gaming consoles" per se, although that remains to be seen.
