They don't want to show off everything like the Dreamcast did, they'll appease the early adopters with the bare minimum and 3rd party for a while. Then expect a flow developing after E3, release after release after release. They WANT to be in competition with the next consoles, not try to get a head start like Sega and end up tripping. From what I see they both failed to learn (3DS) and learned (Dreamcast) from history.

They won't.

And if they do, we may get some free ambassador GameCube games nobody else will be able to get later on.

OT:  Depressing Wii U numbers, maybe some adjustments?

People talking about what the Wii U "needs"... it hasn't been out for 2 months. It's pretty early to be calling for a huge price cut. It's not selling as badly as the Vita was (or is), and that still hasn't gotten any kind of price cut. Let's see how the Wii U is selling after it has some actual game releases outside of its launch line-up. We don't even know anything about its Holiday 2013 line-up.

Japanese sales are particularly irrelevant for Wii U. This past home console generation, Japan was a smaller market than the "rest of the world" according to VGChartz. Even for the Wii, Japan represented less than 10% of hardware sales. America and Europe are MUCH more important for home consoles, so that's where the Wii U has to sell well. It's gotta get its act together in Europe, but again, that might just be a matter of a few big releases like LEGO City and Wii Fit U.

Now that we're out of the holiday season it is actually selling worse than the vita.

Vita

US Week 8: 16,969
EU Week 7: 23,664
JP Week 6: 14,068

Wii U

US Week 8: 15,459
EU Week 7: 11,256
JP Week 6: 26,772

Vita is only ahead by 1214 units, but it is ahead.  Granted, that is assuming this weeks numbers end up being final.  Of course the Wii U LTD is higher, but it did launch in the holiday season.

Damn and that's with mario, blops 2 and AC3, the only game that could save nintendo is maybe wii sports 2, i give that 10% chance since i really don't think anybody cares anymore about motion tech games anymore,  sony has it now and its not really doing anything for them, kinect is a simialer concept but i also feel that had it time and over with.

Damn, those Europe sales are killing the Wii U. Hopefully Wii Fit U makes a dent.

1.6 million gap.

PS3 outselling 360 by 50 k each week on average.

7-8 months is 1.8 million. Thats around August 2013. Unless MS does a LONG OVERDUE 360 price drop.

Best case scenario for PS guys is August 2013. Worst case is after November.

Hrm wow. 360 to be surpassed in August? Guess I was wrong then, looks like Sony can finally celebrate come August unless MS does drop the price and Sony doesn't, but I  can see both companies dropping the price for the holidays wherein Sony would win.

It's just that simple.

It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, mmm well twice :P

@Roma How could Nintendo price the drop? Hehe :P

Bring the games!

When the real numbers are on the frontpage, Wii U's 8th week numbers will be ahead of Vita's by like 10 units. Wait and see.

I don't really care about the Wii U, bıt if the Wii U numbers are correct ( I doubt it) then it spells doom for the new XBOX and PS.

Same.  People proclaiming doom for the Wii U are going to look pretty foolish a year or two from now when the other consoles end up selling even less. I sort of feel that what's going on in the handheld realm right now is a foreshadowing of what's to come for console gaming.

3DS stumbles out the gate to mediocre sales -> price is dropped in desperation and library begins to improve -> console begins to gain momentum and reach pretty strong sales but still not great. Vita comes out and is a sales disaster. Same will happen to Nintendo and Sony in the home console market with Wii U and PS4. MS is more of a wild card to me. I think they'll actually suffer the least decline of the three as they have gained much brand recognition and more popular franchises, but I definitly see a pretty bad decline for home console gaming this gen, if not an all out crash. Main reasons being the economy, the increasing development costs, and gamers losing interest in the same old franchises and formulas, as well as seemingly fewer and fewer games appealing to the masses.

THIS is exactly why Nintendo created the Wii, to ward against this inevitable decline. But alas, people shunned it, and now the industry decline will increase rapidly as anticipated.
