didn't sony release GoW2 on ps2 after the ps3 launched?

i expect the same of sony with a notable release or 2 post ps4 launch this holiday. not so sure about MS, they did a really clean cut over xbox but i think there was other reasons for that. if MS was smart they would support the 360 at least through this holiday, imo.

They are copying Sonys ten year plan. They aren't repeating their cut of the Xbox.

You can't "copy" length in the market, unless Sony patented it....then I guess Sony will sue MS for patent infringement.

You can copy strategies though. Sony's plan for the PS3 is 10-years. This isn't "normal" or "standard" for a console life cycle. This is a Sony thing.

The "strategy" is merely "existing". Hardly rocket science.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

only SONY consoles are capable of a 10 year plan!

I'm interested to see what Sony's strategy regarding PS3 support will be after PS4 launches. Certainly, as people have mentioned, God of War 2 released about 6 months after PS3 launched. Rogue Galaxy (partially developed by Japan Studio) also released in 2007.

I can't see them doing the same with PS3 games to be honest, or at the very least not with a franchise as big as God of War. Maybe we'll get the odd smaller title or something, but even then, I'd think Sony would be best just to leave it to the third parties. Just like they've done with the PSP, pretty much (I don't think they've made a PSP game since 2011? But they're still manufacturing the console).

As Jay mentions, MLB will continue on PS3 for a few years to come, though.

there could be a game or 2 still in the pipeline, but generally speaking, 2013 IS IT!!!!!

Microsoft better announce something at e3, because it's current lineup is pathetic.

Microsoft doesn't care and you would think people would learn from their three consecutive E3's. They are focusing on the new console and its painfully obvious by now.

Ohh well, it will be their downfall in the end

For most it would be, but I think the support for the next console will be fine. In America though they like when Microsoft ignores them as long as they put out a shooter. Look at Microsofts shareholders conferences, they walk around their shareholders instead of answering their questions straight.

Kinda sad, because microsoft started so well back in the early days off this gen, but then they had to chase nintendo's audience

People already forgetting about the PS Move?

it remains to be seen what MS's console transition strategy is as nothing has been announced yet.  until they do, we don't know what MS will do.  all i'm certain of is the awkward position nvida put the origina xbox in won't be a problem this time.

What transition strategy? They copied Sonys ten year plan. Haven't you read of their plans to keep the 360 side by side with the next Xbox? We've known that Microsoft was copying Sonys ten year plan since Shane Kim was the head.

what 360 first party games are releasing this year?

Mostly XBLA related.

Most XBLA games aren't first party. They are second and third party, just like Gears.

Who cares? I know the thread title says specifically 1st party, but the overall gist of it is this might be the last year Sony/MS focus on their consoles. Even if its a 2nd or 3rd party title, as long as MS is securing it and/or publishing it, they're still focusing on the 360 with that release.

No special treatment, Microsoft doesn't get a pass.

i think we may be talking different things.  i of course expect 360 hardware to persist a while.  what i had said in my OP that i thought you were responding to is games.  right now gears judgement is MS's last announced first party exclusive releasing this march.  if that is the last game for 360 from MS i think that will be a mistake.  they need to support their console longer than that before transitioning to their next hardware.

Simple logic = special treatment?

I too think this will be the last year for 1st party.

PSP late 2013 / early 14
360 mid to late 2015
PS3 late 2015 / early 2016

9 year plan.
