My #27 is Bonnie and Clyde, an influential and groundbreaking movie in Hollywood. With its willingness to demonstrate a level of sexuality and violence previously considered taboo, Bonnie and Clyde helped usher in a generation of movies that emphasized realism and embraced "counter-cultural" elements. All the performances in the movie are excellent, especially Estelle Parsons in a supporting role.

27. The last emperor, 1987, Bernardo Bertolucci

Great movie that has only become better with age, including my own since I've learned a bit more about world history. Before I was already sold on the beautiful film style and great acting. A true epic.

Raging Bull?

My #26 is Lawrence of Arabia. The term "epic" gets thrown around far too liberally in Hollywood, but Lawrence of Arabia deserves the title. The movie is huge in size and scope, it features breathtaking panoramic shots, and includes several spectacular action set pieces. Yet, the screenplay is surprisingly literate. The music in Lawrence of Arabia, dramatic and triumphant, is another reason to love this seminal epic.
