I think you're missing the point that the Wii U just launched and previously Nintendo games were $50 rather than $60, which probably put off a lot of people who were used to buying $50 games.

I very much doubt this, it might put off a few very cheap people but  not a lot of people, samething happend xbox to 360 and ps2 to ps3, yet games sold better then ever.

I don't doubt that it had a strong influence on software sales compared to the Wii and Gamecube.  If we can say console price contributed, why not game price as well?  3 $50 games vs 3 $60 games is a $30 difference in price already.

Back when the PS3 and 360 launched, the economy was kind of the opposite of what it was today as well.  People are cheaper now than before, because when the economy is bad (and/or perceived as bad), people spend LESS money.  Some things don't go down, but I am pretty sure this is a thing that went down.

consoles did get more expensive, however 20% increase is different then a 100%  increase like the ps3. gamecube launched at 199$, wii was 249$

It depends on the mod. Let me guess, was it Mr khan who closed the thread?

Above me is an excellent point

I just miss the days when systems launched with a "must buy" game.  I blame the success of Sony systems for this trend of hype, promises, and guauntity. (over quality)

If Sony never had quality people wouldnt demand that out of them. Sony needs their must buy games, but more of their gems go under the radar because of their niche or adult oriented nature. As one developer said Sonys installed base has a higher proclivity to buy diverse and artistic games than their competitors. You can look this up exactly as I said it.

Only if you are a Wii U ONLY owner.

I mean saleswise. But yeah, zero third party support will become the exclusives like water in the middle of a great, great wasteland.

Uneducated topic. Compare Wii U to wii. For software comparison, reduce expectations by decrease in hardware sales (20%?). Take away the top selling game for Wii, WiiPlay, which was bought for the remote (25%?). Now compare game sales. About the same level? Great, goodnight.

Wii Play wasn't available in the US until 2007, and it wasn't 25% of software sales.  Even if you cut off 20% of Wii software, the Wii U has only sold 72% of the software the Wii did through December 2006. (per VGC figures)

you know..this forum is flooded with threads like this one....cut it guys...why are you posting news which already made appearences in here all the time?!...I mean god...does somebody here has a life or what?!

On this topic= You can't ...and I repeat myself= YOU CAN'T take the launch sale numbers and predict the future...If that was the scenario than the ps3 and the 360 wouldn't made it to the 70 mil mark...for gods sake its enough -.-

EDIT: Just realized it wasn't about the sales of the console itself...but the point is the same in my OP

PS4/720 are set to be unveiled in 2 months! Who cares about this lol...

Are people forgetting that most of the games on Wii U are on other systems with much larger user bases, for cheaper prices? AC3, ME3, Batman and so forth. id bet my bottom dollar that must be a factor if not a large one.

This.

Now for me personally because I am coming late to the HD game, the Wii U launch was freakin huge for me as a gamer.  I now have my hands on Arkham City, ME3, Darksiders2, Blops2 for the first time...all during the launch week.  AC3 still to come.  That is just huge for someone like myself to have access to those types of games in a launch timeframe.  For everyone that was already at the HD party, the Wii U luanch has much less significance.  Minus the gamepad, which to me is bar none the best way to play games (if done properly).

So, yeah.  Software sales are not going to blow the doors off.  Wii U needs new quality platform specific games, or to release alongside the other HD versions, but with viable reasons through improved graphics, platform specific extra content and excellent gamepad implementation to get people to A. buy a Wii U and/or to buy the Wii U version of those games.

Was Wii Sports included in the Wii numbers? Because that was included with every single Wii. That might explain something.
