With all the exclusives coming out for PS3 I think it's inevitable. Also an influx in exclusives can always interest Xbox and PC gamers who would like to pick up a PS3 as a secondary console just for it's exclusives, this has happened with several people I know.

Here's why: The big hitters like Halo and COD did not move as many units as I thought it would. There really is only one big game for 360 this year (that I can think of) and its Gears of War. The PS3 has several such as The Last of Us and God of War and a few others that should still move a few units like Beyond: Two Souls, Ni No Kuni, and Tales of Xilia. Lastly, the gap as of now according to the chartz is 1.6 million. PS3 is almost always undertacked on the chartz so it will probably get a good 300-500k boost, especially since reports are that 77 mill units have been shipped. |
That is because so many Sony fanboys only look to retail games...The same thing happened in 2011. Xbox 360 had almost nothing for 2012 and exclusive XBLA games don't count... Untill The journey won so many GOTY awards...Then that changed then they were ready to say that digital games count =p. And yes XBLA has a lot of exclusives for 2013. 2012 was the year of digital games The Journey/The Walking dead and Minecraft selling +5 million on X360.. 2013 can even be better.

The PS3's rate of sale is significantly higher than the 360's already, edging past it in total sales doesn't really mean a lot. Neither Sony nor Microsoft will get a trophy for finishing "2nd" or "3rd". Those are fan metrics, for the most part. The truth is that they will finish virtually tied in terms of total units sold. Those who will really be affected by this are the ones who continuously talked about the PS3 finishing third in this generation. I've heard that said so often, for so many years, intended as an insult. It's amusing to watch those people back-peddle now by claiming that it doesn't matter. For the record, I think it's going to be hard for the PS3 to pass the 360. It's going to have to accomplish most of its sales early, as the numbers are probably going to drop a lot near the end of the year (assuming reveals). |
While its true PS3 has sold at a faster rate its also true if you compare launch to launch the PS3 is also declining at a faster rate than the 360 did

Yea, Kinect did an amazing job at revitalising the 360, but personally I believe they could have had a bigger and more lasting impact if they managed to fulfill all the promises of the tech the first time around. I'm not sure if people will give it a real second chance, especially seasoned gamers, but well maybe they do, then that's perfect for MS.

Hey, I'll definitely give credit where credit is due. Kinect was a game changer. That the 360 came from never winning a full year to beating the PS3 in 2011 mostly because of Kinect and that's pretty impressive. It gave Microsoft a substantial boost. However, without Kinect, would we even be having this conversation now? Anyone else think the PS3 would likely have passed the 360 in 2012? Or that 360 sales would have dropped a lot faster without it? Of course, they did release Kinect, so that's immaterial now, but all factors have to be understood when analyzing something.

it will in 2013 but it won't change anything as most of the customors won't give a !"§$$ about it ;)

problem is: the tech kinect delivers is really far beyond just gaming. at my faculty our robotics-engineers and lecturers went to all stores to buy kinect for research-purposes as it was very cheap for a 3d-depth-camera-tech. its true potential needs research and a lot of time to fulfill what ms wanted to do with it. the tech by now seems still a little bit ahead for games. ms is by now only scraping the possibilities that can be done with kinect. of course they will deliver better tech with nextbox (lag, bandwidth) but will also show more possibilities with 3d-point-clusters. and no, kinect is not eyetoy ;)

yes it's a very real possibility. by end of march, i expect the gap to be between 400k-800k
It's taken ps3 one less year to the the same level of sales as xbox so it's bound to happen eventually. Doesn't matter really they've been outselling the xbox for years anyways.
I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.
