Forums - Sales - Nintendo: Wii U Sales Beat Predecessor

I own lots of Nintendo shares and I care a lot about the games. Most investors care a lot about the game quality.

Nintendo wouldn't be able to make money without awesome games. But that goes for the whole industry.

lol. I guess they can spin stuff however they want if it gets their stock to go up. Can't believe it went down with Pokémon announcement. Silly investors.

I couldn't believe it too! I was beyond shocked. I would of thought a 1-2% increase but no 2% drop wtf lol?

They aren't really hurting that bad financially. Hiccup sure but nothing to bad considering 3ds is a Nintendo platform that is spanking vita. The money to finance these projects comes from selling product not stock prices. Hell I think their sitting on over 10 billion US in cash reserves.

Side note they should buy up all thq IP's get some more 17+ games on the market that parents will buy for their underage children anyway

Nintendo stock will continue to decrease till Microsoft and Sony release ther next gen systems. They r under this impression that 720/ps4 are going to be moving mil+ each week, hence Nintendo is doomed. However I personally think ps4/720 won't even match wii u's WW numbers during launch period. When you will also start to see real comparisons and if Nintendo is ahead stocks will start to increase.

Im waiting to pre e3 then I want to buy Ntdoy stock for my portfolio, I think they will yield nice growth in 2013. hell I may short the stock for a few months first.

The best time to buy Nintendo stock will likely be when they release their fiscal year results around March because they'll probably miss both their 3DS (17 million) and Wii U (5.5 million) estimates, and investors may get spooked, so you could pick up the stock for a good price then, perhaps sub $10/share.

It's such a great spin, though. But as has been said, Nintendo turned this around with the 3DS so I'd bet on them surprising us somewhat this year for the Wii U.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I like Iwata's demeanor but the execution really leaves a lot to be desired. Like a student who keeps telling you he knows what he's doing wrong and says all the right things, but then hands in another assignment with some answers incomplete and others rife with errors.

I tend to stay away from stocks where I'm not confident in the leadership of the company, and while I like Iwata personally, I just don't know if he or the other Nintendo higher ups really know what they're doing in the console race.

The handheld market even with smartphones is a lot easier for Nintendo to correct to be honest. There's no Microsoft (a third enemy) to deal with and Sony folded like a deck of cards once Monster Hunter was taken away.

iOS/Android probably in some ways (not all) help Nintendo a bit because they really kill Sony in getting that older teen/college age demographic they rely on as their bread and butter. So that leaves the handheld market aimed heavily at kids ... and in that race, Nintendo can beat up on Sony all day long.

The PR spin is - well, a PR spin. If it would be the other way around (more unit sales with less revenue, they'd be pointing out the unit sales).

Ok, the reason why stock go down with new game announcements, is because they announce the wrong type of games. Investors expect Nintendo to follow it's previous growth strategy, and when the games announced are Pokemon and Monster Hunter, instead of Brain Training 3 and Wii Sports U, or some new IP to expand the audience, the investors get disappointed, because those are titles they expect. It would be a clear indication Nintendo would go full steam to fight for the market it created, or expand it further.

The investors are going to force Nintendo to follow what they started with Wii and DS.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Now we can stop with the doomed threads :)

Love all the hate the WII U is getting, it's hilarious watching them trying to spin the numbers as bad.
