I hate to say it, but I just think that there is not enough market share for more than one handheld gaming device anymore. Last gen the PSP seemed like the first legit competitor to Nintendo's handheld throne, and I expected the Vita to do even better. The rate at which it is selling just boggles the mind. Nintendo doesn't even have a new compelling features like the DS had last time around, and the Vita is a beast with a pretty reasonable price, and yet it is just getting dominated. Truly a shame.

In 2005, the PSP was mindblowing in delivering near-console level graphics on a handheld.

In 2012, there are too many near-console level graphics devices out there. The 3DS delivers an experience that is different and cheaper than Vita or smartphones.

In addition, just like the Wii U/Wii, I think there are some identity issues as to the average person I think the Vita looks too similar to the PSP and doesn't obviously provide something new.

I'm not sure that even price cuts could help it.

Anyway, I guess we are off the hook now and can judge away on the Vita? Sales are really bad and I don't think it will get considerably better this year. Looking at the 3DS line up, the velvet gloves are off. Best case scenario now is that the Vita can find it's place as a ps3 accessory that plays PS3 games on the go with the occasional exclusive, which isn't all that bad.

I hope the defeat this gen gives us a handheld collaboration between Sony and Nintendo. Sony hardware with Nintendo gimmicks, games and street pass would be pretty rad.

No suprise, PSP i s much better than Vita..

I don't see much of a way back from here. Coincidentally, the 3DS' December NPD first time round was over 1,5mil if I remember correctly.

I blame it's name, the vita just sounds silly, and no teenage kid in there right mind would play with a system with a name like that.

Well "Playstation" sounds like something Fisher Price makes, so I don't know if the name is the main problem.
