So anyone want to hear a well though out theory on the return of Khal Drogo?

Theories involving resurrection are rarely well thought-out, but go ahead, I'm intrigued.

In the mean time, I'll go find the most awesome "almost certainly not true" theory I've seen: the Darkstar Aegon theory.

Okay, if you've got a moment, here's a highly entertaining fan theory: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/68433-my-new-big-theory-about-dorne-aegon-stuff/

If not, I'll try to concisely summarise.

So the OP has two problems.

1) Dorne has done nothing but waste time for the last five novels.

2) Varys spoke to Kevan and specifically said that Aegon had returned to Westeros.

He concludes:

Gerold "Darkstar" Dayne is Aegon Targaryen

  • This shows why Doran is afraid of him
  • Like all Daynes, he has Targ features
  • This makes House Dayne the perfect place to hide him. No need for hair dye or any of that rubbish.
  • Was Doran the great plotter really counting on the survival of Viserys, a beggar king with no army and no supporters except one guy in Pentos?
  • Varys told Kevan the truth. Aegon IS in Westeros.
  • Doran sent Quentyn to die and build some sympathy with Dany (who has dragons)
  • Darkstar captured Storm's End (this seems very iffy since Arianne is definitely going to meet Connington)
  • Only Varys and Doran know. Illyrio and Connington are ignorant.
  • Young Griff is a Blackfyre on his mother's side, and Illyrio is his father.

It's not terribly likely, but it's fun.

Stannis is not still at the wall, did you somehow miss his entire march to Deepwood Motte and then to Winterfell?

I am not sure he really matters, he is surely about to die...

Also, who is left in the north to fight, they just seem to die constantly

You think so? He has a fairly powerful army and a red witch, as well as the support of the Night Watch. He will soon be allied with pretty much the entire North. Who would kill him?

EDIT: He also has the Iron Bank of Braavos.

People who can still claim the Lord Paramountcy of the North:

  • Jon Snow (legitimised and named as heir by Robb. Perhaps his death frees him of his vows, so he is a free man when resurrected)
  • Rickon Stark (Davos is searching for him)
  • Arya Stark
  • Sansa Stark
  • Bran Stark

People left to fight: literally everyone in the entire North except for House Stark. House Manderly springs to mind, as well as House Reed and House Umber. The Karstarks are mostly traitors, unfortunately, but with the Lannisters in their current pitiful condition (Tywin dead, Kevan dead, Tyrion in Essos, Jaime either dead or far away, Cersei awaiting trial, Tommen is a child, Pycelle dead) and a Stark King in the North, I think most Northern lords would be willing to switch sides again.

Stannis was last seen at the wall if you prefer. He is currently in some unspecified place in the North until you read the initial sample chapter from The Winds of Winter. Is it worth amending that?

You need re-read ADWD.

I need to re-read all of them.

But please, do post your Drogo return theory.

The problem is that Gerold is apparently a bit too old to be Aegon; he looks like in his early to mid twenties by the book description, but of course dornish sun is going to age your skin prematurely.

An alternative interpretation is that Gerold is a Blackfire pretender who's going to confront and possibly antagonize Aegon in the future. I mean: a Blackfire = a Darkstar. Dumb but we have one of the sand sisters passing as a male by inverting her name after all.

Oooh better yet. Guys. Guys. Darkstar is Rhaego who was teleported to the past. That's why his features fit with Dany's dream of Rhaego. He's going to be AA.

A Game of Thrones: I watched the series first and immediately read the book afterwards. I especially liked Ned and Tyrion.

A Clash of Kings: I find this to be the best book. Most interesting were the dealings of Tyrion & Varys. I really enjoyed the talk were Robb returned to his uncle in Riverrun only to tell him he'd made a massive tactical blunder in succesfully defending the river from the Lannisters. Thereby accomplishing only the defeat of Stannis.

A Storm of Swords: I liked this less than the first two, finding no one great character. I was thinking there'd come a ceasefire between north and south, but then the red wedding happened. The book only served to get rid of all the players to start a new round of plots.

A Feast for Crows: This book has all the worst characters especially Brienne and her journey that ends in nothing.

A Dance with Dragons: A return to form. Jon is boss here, while Danearys waits yet another book for someone to come pick her up if she and the dragons are ever going to make it. Jon has a good death. I just hope he stays dead and isn't revived by some more voodoo magic. I'm thinking the wall and the rest of the north will soon fall now.

It seems a little bit anticlimactic for Rhaegar and Lyanna's son to die from a sword through the chest from a steward and just stay dead.

Okay, I've corrected the bit in the OP about Stannis. Thanks for pointing that out, Kylie.

I don't like the voodoo that, in my mind, was introduced with Renly's death

It's not voodoo, it's a fairly well-explained magic mechanic drawn from Rh'llor. This is still a fantasy novel; I feel like the little touches of magic keep it from becoming (very interesting) historical fiction.
