So 166k per week in Japan?
Hmmm. I guess its possible but I'd have to see the next few weeks sales to make a better prediction.

I don't think there's any chance of it happening. The 3DS would need a phenomenal boost. To put it into perspective, the DS post-lite didn't drop under 510,000 a single month in 2006. Meanwhile, the 3DS in 2012 only surpassed 410,000 twice - in November and December.
I think even matching the DS' 2007 - at 7.2 million - is going to be a very hard stretch.
I think launch aligned, 3DS will rise above DS with this strng of a 2013 lineup. Peak to peak, 3DS hasnt had the benefit of a redesign and definitely is selling into a much more depressed economy. 3DSi to the recue in 2014!!!!
Honestly, I never though I'd say this, but 3DS does have a chance of surpassing DS in Japan. It's already over 10 million sold over there and it's still got another four solid years on the market before a successor hits and sales take a nosedive.
Outside of Japan, though... Yikes.
zeldas ,marios ,pekemons are coming so its a posibility

I doubt it, but still could be classified as a major success and could be second greatest selling hand held ever.
The DS truly was something to behold in its prime, not fair to compare anything to it.

I do remember well the timeframe you're referring to. Every week like clockwork the DS/ Lite was selling 150k /week for well over a year straight. There were even articles written at the time where people were saying you'd be hard-pressed to find someone out and about in Japan who didn't have a DS on them.
We'll see how 2013 shakes out for 3DS. In order to have a chance at even matching DS sales, (let alone surpassing it) the 3DS will need to sell in excess of 150k per week for a sustained period of time, and the holiday season would have to be absolute gangbusters.
It is possible, though. Monster Hunter/ Shin Megami/ Luigi's Mansion/ Pokemon/ Dragon Quest. Surely to be the 3DS's biggest year in Japan by far. Not mention what are sure to be very long legs for Animal Crossing. I think that game will sell well into the spring, helping keep 3DS numbers up on off-weeks when no new titles are released.

Yes, please do. That would be awesome!
Track the sales. That would make for a very exciting thread.
And no. New IP's (or old ones making a comeback) that catch people's attentions need to be made to have a 7.5 Million + year. With the titles coming out this year, though, I think the 3DS could top out at around 6.5 Million in Japan, 7 if everything goes perfect.
