Sony should not focus on power next gen. When they did focus on power with the PS3, it only gave them a minuscule advantage over the 360, and resulted in an extremely expensive console. You seem to have forgotten about how poorly the PS3 did during the first half of the generation. Either that  or you're posting from a fans perspective rather than a business perspective, which it seems you are. Sony needs to go back to their PS1/PS2 strategy and ditch the focus on power altogether imo.

Yes, Sony said they've never been first or the cheapest, but so what? First of all, they didn't even make a claim, they just noted a trend with their hardware. Second of all, even if they made a claim, that means nothing. Remember when they called the Wii a fad? Yeah....Third of all, they can still release a PS4 this year at >$300 and they wouldn't be first or the cheapest. This quote doesn't support your argument at all.

But why would fans of games like "Uncharted", "The Last of Us", and "Beyond:  Two Souls" be interested in buying a $400.00 console that isn't really going to offer much of an improvement over what's available on PS3?

It will though.  WiiU sells at $350 with a $170 controller.  PS4 could sell at $400 at a small loss with a normal controller and BC cut out and do 1080p 60fps.  This would be a marked improvement.

@EdHieron: 1&2 then why they are playing games on consoles and not on PC, which has the graphics horsepower in completely different spheres?

3 You don't think they will be selling the console at a huge loss, like they did the PS2 and PS3?

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

1. Aside from Uncharted, I'm not sure if there are many fans of those games, at least not enough to drastically effect Sony's strategy.

2. Most gamers don't actually care about graphics.

3. What makes you think a $400 2013 console won't offer much of an improvement over the PS3 which is barely more powerful than a $400 2005 console ( the 360)

1.  Considering the consoles based on graphics horsepower had over 50% of this console generation's marketshare, I would say that's a significant indicator right there.

2.  Considering the consoles based on graphics horsepower had over 50% of this console generation's marketshare, I would say that's a significant indicator right there.

3.  Because at $300.00 the Wii U doesn't.

1. That has nothing to do with what I just said. We don't if there will be many fans of Beyond and TLoU.

2. Sony doesn't share success with Microsoft, so it makes no sense to combine their accomplishments to show what Sony should do. Sony's success is dependent on the individual accomplishments of their platform. Being the least selling console of the three, it's safe to say the power route did not pay off. In fact, looking at this generation, power has shown to be a negative correlation with sales.

Also, the best selling game on the HD console is Call of Duty - not a game focused on graphics, huh?

3. $100 was spent on the Wii U's tablet, so you might as well call it a $200 Wii U when referring to power..

Because consoles are more consumer friendly ( ie. you can sit in a comfotable chair with your feet up while playing them) and they cost much less than gaming pcs (ie. less than $500.00 Versus $2,000.00 for a decent system that requires upgrades every two years to keep up).

The thought is that they will be selling the consoles at a huge loss.  They could build a console for $500.00 using the best tech that money would buy and release it at that cost without having a huge loss on each console sold.

1.  "The Last of Us" will sell 3 to 5 Million copies, so saying there's no audience for that type of game isn't correct.

2.  No, Microsoft and Sony share many things in common that separates them from Wii.  Primarily their third party game libraries.  The types of games on PS3 and 360 proved to be far more popular to the types of games on Wii this gen and that's why Wii could never get 50% marketshare.   If there had only been one HD console it would have had over 50% of the marketshare.

1. Assumptions

2. Fact is, there has always been a negative correlation with power and sales. If the PS4 is the most powerful console, it'll be the most expensive, and it'll probably sell the least (again).

Two consoles combined may have sold a lot, but Sony needs to focus on what their single console will do. Looking at history, their console has done poorly as a result of power.

Also the PS4 won't be coming off of a generation leader like the PS3 did. So there's a lot less room for error.

And You ignored the fact that CoD is the best selling HD game. Gamers care about a moderate level of graphics, but not much.

3. You ignored my Wii U statement.

Kaz Hirai released a statement from CES today saying how pleased he was with the PS3's performance in the long run and that it's a profitable console, so I wouldn't say that it's done poorly.

Sony doesn't care about selling more than 360 they care about profits. And the ps4 won't be a beast it will be stronger than wiiU (2-3x) but they won't take a risk making massive losses again thanks to their bad financial situation.

does anyone have an estimate on when we'll stop hearing this sheep hoarding reguritated horseshit?

anyway

ps4 will be releasing this year in either 1 of 2 forms, either world wide (seperated by weeks) or similar to Vita ie, japan late in the year world wide early next year,

my guess would be the software isnt done and more games are coming out to round out the ps3, I'd love to be wrong though

I also assume they will be watching MS closely which would be wise

The controller cost aprox. $100 in the U.S (speculated retail price), so maybe between $80-$90 to manufacture.

Nintendo and PC gamer

I disagree

The Last of Us is releasing in mai 2013 instead of christmas and PS2 Production stopped worldwide. Wii U is already out and Microsoft will not give sony a headstart too and will also try to release in 2013.

PS4 will definitely release in 2013.
