Forums - Gaming - Kaboom: Nvidia Is Making Its Own Gaming System

It's not exactly that I'm getting "worked up" over it, but it is clear that the article was not doing that, seeing what proceeded the "Wii U" comment.  Given all the context, it definitely wasn't what the writer of the article (nor all these images showing the Nvidia gaming system next to a controller fo the Wiii U) intended to do.

It's a controller with a screen on it that can play games on a TV, why wouldn't it be compaired to the Wii U?

For those asking, this is like a Wii U because it can stream games from your PC to the controller, which is awesome. That is one of my favorite parts of the Wii U controller, and I have a LOT of games on Steam. I love my Wii U, and I love streaming things on my Wii U, so I will definetly get this as it will help me go through my massive PC library. Plus, I'm sure it will make a great emulator box on the go as well.

Except this thing isn't going to be competing with the Wii U.  It's not quite the same thing.  This reminds me of people saying how the Vita + PS3 combo is just the same thing as the Wii U except better (when that's obviously not true).

Calm down no one is saying that this makes the Wii U look like shit or anything. Just that it may offer some of the same features that are also offered by the Wii U hardware. It's competing with the Wii U in the same way that any gaming device is competing for people's time and money, but this is an android device with buttons that supports some neat streaming not a fully fledged game system so it's shooting for a very different market.

If you say that it competes in the same way that any gaming device competes for people's time and money, then the aritcle shouldn't have mentioned that it even had a shot at the Wii U, and said console gaming.

Calm down dude, I'm a Nintendo fan boy and I get what they're saying.  I love my Wii U, but they mentioned the Wii U because it can emulate one of the defining features of the console (remote play.)  It would make no sense to mention another system, or even the Sony Remote play (as know one cares about it and it is seldom used), when they are talking about 1 comparable feature.

Np, it can't do asymetrical game play.  It also doesn't have Nintendo software..... does that mean we can't compare it to a Nintendo system?

I wasn't attacking you, I was trying to make a statement about the article by expanding on what you said.

It's cool, I'm just getting a little tired of people on this site getting all up in arms when ever someone even mentions thier company's machine next to something  else.  I know this is largely because people mention these things in order to troll in the first place, but it's all starting to annoy me.

A comment on the device itself, the d-pad looks bad. Does anyone else get that feeling that it would suck?

The game console market has just got a heck of a lot more complicated than we imagined not long ago.

Not really it's basically a mini Android tablet with buttons and physical countols that can stream games from a PC.

It means that I don't need a gaming console if I have an nVidia GPU. This is pretty huge for the people who would otherwise go console + PC because I would no longer need a console to play games with, just my beast PC.

Tease.

Yup, mentioned it above.  Looks a lot like the original Xbox 1 controller, and that is NOT a good thing.  I wonder if a company will make a similar device (that can stream from Steam) with a more Wii U like form factor, as I'm a pretty big fan of that controller.

Can't be worse than the one on the X360 pads lol

you could do pretty much the same thing by hooking up your PC to a TV with a long HDMI cable and using a wireless gamepad. Is doing it over Wi-Fi that much of a game changer? Sure your PC wouldn't need to be as close to the TV but still.

I guess being able to continue playing while you go the the bathroom is kinda cool, and also kinda gross lol.

I am simply just a bit worried that people will start actually believing that this thing actually "has a shot" at the Wii U, as the article puts it.  I don't even know what that means, so I posted some of my comments if anyone came in here possibly believing what the guy said, considering there are many people who believe if someone has authority what they say holds legitimacy.

It would be different if the device had a lot more in common with the Wii U than it does.  I don't mind if people were just trying to compare the NVidia gaming system with the Wii U.  All of my comments really rooted from the article.  I can see how having a touch screen controller (with physical buttons) connecting to a TV can be similar to the Wii U but at the end of the day that isn't what sells the Wii U to most people.  Funnily enough, the article claims the reason that the device competes with the Wii U is because of all of its tablet-esque functions.

Well HDMI cables get very technical with runs over 30ft with repeaters etc required. Also there is the nice thing about having a touch screen input right on the device to drive the computer whereas with a long HDMI cable run you'd also need to work out how to get at least a mouse hooked up as well. This device looks pretty neat and I am looking forward to perhaps a more open standard based on this kind of technology which is GPU agnostic with more options for end use devices.

Edit: It also has a USB port so you could probably use it as a hub to plug in a proper KB/M setup if you wanted.

Yeah, just one year ago we all would have laughed at the thought of 4 new comers entering the market this year!!

nVidea

Ouya
