Forums - Sales - WiiU vs. last gen and handhelds

Updated the OP. The graphs now contains the adjustments made for the past weeks. WiiU-sales got a bit better through the adjustments. it still trails behind Vita and the others. The gap (WiiU-Vita, is in favor of WiiU right now) has shrinked more, as the effect of the european and US-launch for Vita last year are in effect in the comparing weeks. In the weekly sales trend we can see, that WiiU sells below of what Vita could do last year. We will see which effect MH3U, Lego City and NFS will have.

Updated the OP with this weeks numbers. Another week of abysmal sales. Interesting enough, the WiiU LTD-sales in the US now reach the LTD-sales of PS3 and X360 at that point (or better worded, PS3 and X360 reach WiiU sales if we align launches). So the effect of the better sales at launch is over in the US. Worldwide a bit more time is needed.

Next week should be interesting, with Need For Speed, MH3U and in US Lego City we probably will see some effect on sales.

OK, the week with some games arrived and sales look a bit better. That helped, that this week the WiiU could increase the gap to the Vita again (launch aligned) by a tiny little bit. Let's look at the hold the next weeks.

Yeah, I think it doubled the sales last week? Will be interesting to see how next week will be

Updated the OP with this weeks numbers. Global sales increased again while US was dropping, because europe got Lego City and got another boost. Also japanese sales increased, although I don't know why.

Sorry for the late update. MH kept me busy.
OP is now up to date with current numbers. It shows the WiiU is dropping again after the game-spike, as expected.
But the drops are pretty bad. The WiiU is again below the sales of the Vita in it's first year (hence the gap is again decreasing). In global cumulative sales it is near the point to be overtaken by PS3 and X360, in the US that happened. That all looks bleak. WiiU needs more games now. Where is the WiiU-Direct, Mr. Iwata?

I don't think we'll get a Wii U ND; we'll get an e3 instead full of Wii U goodness

I hope E3 is full of WiiU goodness but don't it'll boost WiiU into healthy sales past the holidaus. Games announced at E3 usually come out 6-9 months later - at which point PS4/720 will be out, giving WiiU fresh competition.

The year head start really helped 360 in it's second holiday season over PS3 (more games / games looked better on 360 / PS3 versions delayed) but I seriously doubt WiiU will have any of these advantages due to lack of power and general lack of serious interest from 3rd party publishers.

However, the more great games for WiiU the better.
