Forums - Sales - Can either Xbox360 or PS3 surpass Wii for global sales?

I don't see Xbox 360 or PS3 selling more than 7 or 8 million each this year based on a probable. Due to saturation and the announcing of new systems, we can safely assume at least a 10% drop in sales from the trending 20% yearly decline, or a total of at least 30% - and this is being generous because consoles almost always drop over 50% the year a successor is launched.

Well I think the Wii will end up selling about 105 million lifetime. So the 360 has no chance to pass the wii. If the nextbox releases in late 2013, I think the 360s lifetime sales will be about 80 million. If the nextbox isn't released until 2014, the 360 might approach 85-90 million. The PS3 also has little chance of passing the Wii. If Sony releases the PS4 within the next year or two, and drops support for the PS3, it might make around 85 million. But if Sony keeps supporting the PS3 for years later, it might be able to reach 95 or even 100 million units sold. Still though, not passing the wii.

Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).

Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !

The PS3 fans like ethomaz are kinda hopeful or delusional depending how you look at it, but short answer is that in a years time both the 360 and PS3 sales legs will be cut off, just like the Wii is now.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Doubt it. The PS3 still has 2 major pricedrops to look forward to, but neither will have a big enough impact for it to do 25 million+ in the longrun. I could see it doing 95 million, while the Wii topping out at 100-102, but thats max.

360 and PS3 do not follow Wii's pattern at all. They will not tumble near as much as Wii, especially not the PS3. Sure, a big drop, but nowhere near the ~50% drop that Wii saw year after year.

The next Xbox and PS4 buzz will slow their sales to a crawl. Maybe PS3 will sell a bit more due to Europe and Japan, but at their slowed rate, they wont reach 1st place. Doesnt mean they will stop selling all together, but certainly wont surpass Wii.

I always thought that would be the case, but lately I'm thinking that Xbox 360 and PS3 sales will remain strong even with successors on the market. The Xbox and PS3 have huge libraries of great games, multimedia applications, and lower price points -- three things that make them desirable. I think PS4 and the next Xbox might get off to slow starts, only because the seventh generation systems provide so much value at a lower cost.

Yeah, perhaps for the first year and a half after the next consoles release. 3rd parties and multimedia applications will keep em going forsure.

Not possible, PS3 will be extremely lucky to get to 95M. 360...just no.

Considering this year there were only two consoles in the market (lol Wii) and maybe next year will be three (come on Wii U), I should say no, especially to the 11m projection for ps3 sales this year.
