enjoy and celebrate the sales, but just dont be hypocrites and downplay GT5 sales because it was bundled after 3 years |
Except people buy the Halo 4 Limited Edition Console because, wait for it, they WANT HALO 4! And they were limited which eliminates any claims of mass bundling. Halo 4 is a much bigger game than GT5 which is the point of this thread, it's also to show that even when Sony's biggest IP is mass bundled for years it still can't do Halo numbers.
People don't buy PS3's because they want GT5, Uncharted 3 or Uncharted 2 & 1, Resistance 1, LittleBigPlanet or Motorstorm, they've just happened to be thrown in. The Uncharted series has been artificially made popular due to Sony's desperate bundling of it to appear to have a hit franchise, it doesn't actually have a large fan base because a lot of people who own the games didn't want them. Gran Turismo is obviously a huge franchise but without every game in the series being mass bundled I doubt it would be much bigger than Gears of War. Resistance 2 & 3 which weren't mass bundled prove most of the sales of Resistance 1 were due to bundling. LittleBigPlanet is fairly popular but look at how much less it sold with LBP2 when it wasn't mass bundled. I don't even have to say anything for Motorstom, the drop off after mass bundling is spectacular. God of War is the only Sony IP that's big due to gamers making it so and not being mass bundled, If GoW3 sold 5.2m (about 5.6m now) in 2 years with very little bundling in its first month of release then imagine if it had GT5 or UC3 level bundling, would have sold over 7 million.
What I'm saying is most of Sony 'big' IP's only appear so because they're mass bundled, Halo and Gears of War don't get bundled outside of limited edition consoles for a couple of weeks/a month and yet can consistently sell 10+ or 6+ million copies with most at full price.
