If you want to talk about the best video game character, it has to be Jowy. Starts out as your friend working towards the same goal, but as time goes on a different vision of how to accomplish that goal forms between the Jowy and the main character. Jowy ultimately becomes one of the best altruistic villains every to grace any media. Amazing character!

I would have a hard time picking a top ten, dammit! D:

If you absolutely HAVE to have just one, then I'd say Cammy from Street Fighter. I love playing as her, love her as a character, and her design. Even if I'm not that good with her... :(

I'll take Samus Aran, but I have to ignore Other M to do so.

The player I like to play as the most? That would be Link (original) or Batman (adapted from other media). But my favorite character in a game was probably Tidus. Link is fun to play as but he doesn't actually have personality. Tidus, to me, walked a perfect line bridging the player between a magical world and their own. It helped a lot that his character was himself from another world, thrown into this fantasy. He was relatable, funny at times but still a hero and part of the story. Final Fantasy X, with Tidus at the center, represented for me the pinacle of video game story telling to date. It will be hard for any character and story to top his for me.
