Forums - Sales - XPlay vs. IGN: which has the bigger influence on sales?

As for "Me," the poster, I rejoice in the fact that your not buying this wonderful game. Someone with enough intelligence to let the lowest available and least respected review of a game, 8/10, completely deter them from playing what is probably the most critically acclaimed non-shooting action game so far this generation, either is a "fakeboy"(as in, Wii hater) and wasn't gonna buy the game anyway, or never deserved to play it in the first place. You think you have power because us "Nintendo fanboys" don't have your sale, when in actuality, I could care less. I'm in it for the games, and the Wii just got a AAAExclusive, first one of 08. You know, people said the Wii would never get a 3rd party AAAexclusive.

Where do you get off attempting to label me on the strength of one post - you have clearly already labelled me a fakeboy yet I fully support any game that appeals to me, bought Zak and Wiki, RE4, REUC, Mario and Sonic, Tiger Woods 08 on their first days of release cos they appeal to me but what I do not love however is these sandbox games - never bought Godfather, never bought Spiderman 3, in PS2 games never owned a single GTA game but as I liked the style of No More Heroes I was willing to give it a go. I had a concern in the back of my mind that it may get tedious and when I read that the missions dont allow to be replayed and some of them include killing loads of people without getting hit once made my mind up to give it a miss.

completely deter them from playing what is probably the most critically acclaimed non-shooting action game so far this generation - by who exactly? does that include Super Mario Galaxy?

Well, here we go.

What you said doesn't give me much confidence in your abilities to do virtually anything.

I don't know if your a fakeboy or not. Are you? Do you think the Wii is the best system? Worst system? What is your favorite system?

SMG isn't an action game, imo.

Now, let me get to the point. When you make little quips claiming that you've made up your mind about a game purchase made off, not just a review, but the lowest available review for a game and only that review, without giving any other information, don't get all righteous and holier than thou when someone busts you out on the obvious implications of your decision.

I don't care what you think. However, I stand by the fact that if you actually let just the IGN review, and that review alone, deter you from playing what is obviously a great game, without even considering another review, you honestly don't deserve to play it, imho, I hope you don't buy it, and I'm not gonna apologize for it.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Wouldn't it be more fitting to take like, Gamespot vs. IGN? I have never heard of Xplay and that seems pretty common around here.

On topic: IGN.

PSN: TrbSvns.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Fakeboy? I bought the Wii on launch and was one of the people that paid to reserve it, my 360, PS2, GC (obviously) hardly get switched on anymore, games like Tomb Raider I actually chose it for the Wii rather than other platforms and I own 15 games at the moment - only 2 of them are for a non Wii platform. make your own mind up

secondly IGN alone didn't make my mind up - it merely confirmed something I was wondering anyway but on topic I still regard this as infleuncing my decision whether to purchase or rent it. Maybe I do look for lowest available reviews but I read reviews to confirm my decision to purchase them and look for the negatives and I never read a review on a game that doesn't interest me wanting the review to persuade me otherwise. Right now one of the most important aspects that I look for is for the wife and I to enjoy a game together and if we get stuck on a hard mission then taking turns to defeat that is a lot of fun - driving back to a location after every defeat to get it to reappear on the map then the other person driving back to have another go isn't something i'm willing to put up with.

Never have and Never will say this makes it a bad game

Have a look first, then decided it yourself.

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

IGN obviously

PSN ID: krik

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

If I miscontrued the meaning of your original post, I apologize. Your post seemed to indicate that IGN and IGN alone was the sole reason you didn't buy the game, which is silly, since the IGN review is the lowest review of the game, worldwide, from one of gamings least respected reviewers(imho), concentrating mostly on graphical inadequacies, and, in the end, is still generally glowing despite the relatively low score of 4/5. For these reasons, I anwsered what I presumed was your "dare" to No More Hero's and Wii fanboys. I took it as a kinda "I'll make any little quip comment I want and what are you gonna do about it?" Again, if I misconstrued, I'm sorry, but the original post seemed passive-agressive towards the game and sympathetic towards its most controversial and lowest review score.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

it may have seemed passive-aggressive and if thats the case then it wasn't meant to be, just even though i'm not getting it i'm bloody annoyed cos this game was announced at launch and I was really looking forward to it but I can see exactly in my head what i'll be like the minute I come up to a hard mission.

I'll be on my feet ranting on about "why do developers feel the need to put a really hard mission in without the option to retry straight away?" just to turn it off and go into "it's not going back on again" only to put it on a couple of hours later and by this time the wife will sit in the bedroom and not want to be around me when playing this game. Thats not the developers fault they chose to adopt that game style - it's mine

Enjoyed the banter though
