You're quite the sexist, I must say. And no, I'm not being ironic, or joking - I'm 100% serious, you're sexist.

Anyway, there are two possible cases that may have arisen, here (actually three, but we'll assume that they didn't buy a "new" system that had been used by staff and then resold as new, or something like that).

Case 1: Bought used from a games retailer. In this case, the fault lies almost entirely with the games retailer, which should have a policy of returning a system to factory settings. If a person purchases a game console from a retailer, irrespective of its new/used status, it should be guaranteed to work and to not have inappropriate things on it.

Case 2: Bought used via a private sale (including eBay, etc). In this case, the parents are to blame for purchasing an item by private sale and not checking it prior to giving it to their young child.

In both cases, some fault also lies, of course, with the person who sold the 3DS.

And for those who are going "it's just porn" or things like that - you're disgusting. Not because porn is disgusting, but because it's entirely inappropriate for young children to be exposed to it against their parents' wishes. And so, assuming that this is a Case 1 situation, your dismissive attitude is atrocious. And I'm sure that, if it were, say, a pornographic ad during a childrens' TV show, you would be outraged just as much as most people - the only reason you're really dismissing it is because you consider gaming to be more important, and that's sad.

I don't think s/he understands that its equally degrading for men, quite sad to see someone so high and mighty when in fact their attitude is the cause of far more dangerous consequences than most porn.  I agree, they are sexist.

There is no excuse for this, I would imagine that the US have data protection acts/laws that mean pre-owned hardware should always be erased.  I think some people don't understand that this father probably felt so strongly that this shouldn't happen to anybody else's child at Christmas which is why he has gone so far with his complaint.  Seems a responsible father to me.

It's off-topic, so I won't elaborate too much, but either you're intentionally being ignorant, or you really don't realise how many different types of porn are out there. I mean, even mentioning gay porn proves you wrong (especially given that gay porn is probably more common than heterosexual porn). Then there's, for instance, dominatrix porn.

The fact of the matter is, either porn is degrading for all who are in it, or it's not degrading for any of them. Your attitude that suggests that women in porn are being degraded, but men in porn are not, is highly sexist, and the fact that you only care about degradation of women, and not of men, is one of the big inconsistencies amongst people like you. I bet you're also one of those people who go "rape is an awful thing for those women who get raped", but when you hear of a guy being raped by a woman, you laugh, as though it's some sort of revenge. Quite simply, people like you sicken me just as much as chauvinistic, misogynist men.
