My whole point is MSFT was not spotted those sells, they earned them.

PS4 is just as likely to launch in 2013 as nextbox.  Also I've admited multiple times I'm playing what if but all these people saying MS "earned" those sales or bought xbox because they thought it was legitimately a better console are talking out of their ass.  Most of the 360 gamers I know own one exclusive (Halo or Gears), but usually they play COD and other multiplats.  Why are they playing those on 360?  Because it came out a year earlier and its main competition was %50 more expensive (not a small amount that could be overlooked for brand loyalty).  Of course if people would look at the free online thing and think into the future they would see that even that astronomical difference would be made up for, but people tend to look at the initial price on a shelf over thinking years down the road.  Let's also not forget the artificially inflated install base of 360 due to RROD.

You're saying everyone who bought a 360 did so only because they were ill informed, didn't care, or were otherwise mislead?

You - good sir - with all due respect - are talking out of your arse.

It's this kind of arrogance/reality disconnect - that is symbolic of where Sony find themselves at the moment. If only everyone was as educated, cultured and refined enough - they'd all buy Sony.

The possibility that anyone could find a competitors offering superior to what Sony offered, and willfully choose them over Sony because their product offered more of what they wanted/a better product in the areas they find important - be it Microsoft or Nintendo - just doesn't compute with some people does it?

Bullet point lists (usually starting with PSN +) will be brought out, maps of Europe will be imageshacked into posts, spreadsheets with "aligned launches"  and coloured lines will be attached - lectures will be delivered with all the subtlety, nuance and narrow world view of a student politician guest lecturing a civics class - and not one crap will be given by people who are happy with their choice of console this generation.

Sony clearly acknowledge where their competitors have strengths (and usually try to mimic it 12-18 months later) - I don't see why Sony diehards (a special breed apart from the regular Sony fans - who are generally open minded and level headed) have to wait for the Sony version of a competitors product to come out before they acknowledge "innovation".

The unwashed masses of low IQ, low income, poorly educated Nintendo/MS users all yearn to be free under Sony! If only they knew it.

Keep up the good work.

I didn't say every single one I said that's why they are LEADING.  Big difference.  There are plenty of people who like Xbox live arcade games, halo, gears, etc and would have picked 360 over ps3 on an even playing field, but 70 million? I think not

What you said was - "Also I've admited multiple times I'm playing what if but all these people saying MS "earned" those sales or bought xbox because they thought it was legitimately a better console are talking out of their ass."

I don't think that's really open to interpretation. You didn't specify either way, just a blanket statement, that you've chosen to append to now. Please don't say "I meant this"  when you actually said something else, then try to backtrack.

Easy for you to say "I may have gone a bit too far - what I meant was..." - which is all fair and good  - but to say " I actually said this" - when you DIDN'T - well that is the dictionary definition of  "talking from your arse."

Peace be with you - but I couldn't let such a wildly untrue statement remain unchallenged.

oh my let's argue semantics instead of having a casual debate.  I'm not going to review everything I say before I respond to you.  This isn't a presidential debate we're on an internet forum so...yeah

Man there's a big difference between semantics - and actually retracting/modifying/denying a statement you made.

But whatever -

Again, in each console's top 10 you have only 2 games from MS and Sony. The rest are 3rd party and virtually the exact same breakdown of franchises/genre.

I am not sure what exclusives have to do with the sales of 3rd party games anyway. You said that gamers play such and such franchises on 360 only because it launched earlier and PS3 was too expensive, I am simply saying that in the case of a lot of franchises (especially the one you listed, CoD) people play it on 360 simply because it plays better there.

Technically, we don't know how well a lot of SW sells on the 360, since MS doesn't give SW numbers in their fiscal reports.  All we get are some of the numbers for top tier games, if a comany so chooses to release them.  For all we know, PS3 may have very well have passed it in SW totals.

And for all we know - there are people living on the moon.

We have plenty of other hard factual data from multiple reliable sources that suggests they don't, but hey, until we get their numbers - who can tell!

Viva la Moon People!

Only difference is your Moon People is a crazy statement, while mine could actually be true.  What hard reliable data are you speaking of?  Again, unless its a huge release, we never get any official data for 360 SW sales (except Japan).  At least Sony gives us a total each quarter.

We can sort this out when last months Moon People NPD (or any other number of nations official sales data, or sales totals from publishers) comes in!

Happy New Year!

Obviously not as much as you. You just bothered to whack in an unpruned quote tree just so you could add nothing relevant!

Around the Network

Seems like an odd thing to celebrate if you ask me. Odds are the system will be down a fair 20% next year, so any victory would be hollow.

It would be like congratulating the GameCube for 25% marketshare in 2006. Not sure that happened but you get the idea.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Jesus you Sony people. Wake up and smell the coffee already.

Here are the current numbers:

1. Wii 40.4%
2. 360 30.2%
3. PS3 29.4%

PS3 has and always will be third place this gen. They used to be a distant 3rd but now they are a close third. Celebration? You've made the same predictions year after year. So what the PS3 outsold the 360? It's too little and too late. No one cares about this generation anymore. Statistically, the PS3 was a flop; it always trailed behind the 360 and never came close to touching the Wiii. That's an apodictic fact that no one can spin.

Just get over it and move on. You might win next gen or you might not. By the time you share 30% with 360 (and you will NEVER come close to 50%) the next gen will be ushered in.

Ps3 could reach 100 million that would be successful I think

inflated install base due to rrod???? u sir are misinformed. ms replaced my xbox for free for 3 yrs. 3 xboxe's only one purchase. I don't think they count replacements as a purchase. That makes no sense. And i still have the same box from '07 working just fine.

He is saying 50% just in one year. Like, in 2013, of all the current gen consoles sold, 50% will be PS3.

But you're still right, it's a hollow victory. Wii already has its successor out and 360 will have its out in 2013, so it should go without saying that the PS3 will sell a lot more than the other two.
