Forums - Gaming Discussion - While NRA Was on TV Talking About Need for More Guns, Another Mass Shooting was Occurring in Pennsylvania

I put this in gaming discussion because, as the NRA tells us, video games are to blame.

The National Rifle Association today held its first press conference since last week's deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, and the takeaway was clear: We need more guns.

"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," said NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre.

He went on to call for an armed police officer to be stationed in "every single school" across America to prevent further mass shootings, as critics tried to point out that armed law enforcement officials might not be the panacea the NRA thinks it is.

But before they could finish their sentence, the counterargument made itself as news broke of a mass shooting event in Pennsylvania with multiple casualties, including state troopers.

According to local reports out of Blair County, at least four people were killed and five more were injured in a shooting spree near Altoona. The gunman is said to be among the dead, and at least two state troopers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

WPXI's Courtney Brennan says she was told by emergency officials that the shooting suspect "was 'mobile' at one point and went up and down a rural road and shot victims."

No additional information is available at this time, but a spokeswoman told the Altoona Mirrorit was "a relatively large crime scene."

Meanwhile, back at the NRA press conference, LaPierre was blaming anything and everything for the Sandy Hook massacre except guns.

This is genius. I agree that the schoolkids needed guns, a lot of them. Take away this fucking Lego and shit and let them have bullet proof wests, kevlar helmets and little SMG's. What a beautiful world it would be.

The new shooting just proofs that there are still not enough armed "good guys" on the streets.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

300 million guns in this country is still not enough to keep us safe. We need moar nao!

Freedom is a warm gun.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Well, it's better than the initial "teachers need guns" line some were saying to begin with.

no one is suggesting this. the NRA isnt even suggesting teachers be armed (even though they should be able to), the NRA is only suggesting schools have armed police officers.

at least try to inform yourself before spewing nonsense

we need more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens, as prooved time and time again by the lower crimerates in areas where citizens are armed in greater numbers thanks to laws that permit them to do so, and high crimes in area with low amounts of legal gun ownership thanks to laws that prohibit lawful gun owners.

The law abiding citizen line is the most cringeworhty argument ever. The only thing that separates a law abiding citizen and a criminal is the act of committing a crime. Every criminal was once a law abiding citizen until they committed a crime.
