They made progress, true, but I wouldn't call it outstanding. Except the US and UK both Nintendo and Sony have a far better position. They have absolutely NO chance in JP, seeing that even the Vita is struggling there.

But they don't need Japan to do well, so it doesn't matters anyway.

a 200% increase in Europe isnt outstanding?  far better?

OK.

OT

No chance in japan, there are other things at play there.  But Japan is less important this gen and will be even more so next gen.  Doesnt mater, They have competed amazingly well considering they only sell in two of the 3 main markets.  I doubt any console ahas ever achieved that.

When you had pretty much 0 presence, and that grows by 200%... yeah, its not that big of a deal In the US and UK it made mirtacles tough, and even in Japan it managed to have a decent growth :))

Perople say things so often they start to believe them.

European marketshare:

Xbox

Last gen:  11%

This gen:  27%

PS

Last gen:  82%

This gen:  33%

Yes, its still funny just how slow the Xbox growth was, considering how pathetic the PS3 launch was

Compared to the stranglehold sony had on Europe last gen, this is certianly nothing short of spectacular European sales. Yes part of the sales increase is due to the gaming market growing. But the market didn't grow 4 times over. A big increase came from the 360 and wii directly taking away around 1/3 of sony's previous consumer base. And while sony managed to secure their position by the end of the gen, this gen clearly showed that Europe, sony's most dominante market, is by no means a safe bet anymore. Infact in terms of marketshare compared to last gen, sony dropped much less in America than Europe.

In Japan it went from next to nothing to next to nothing. In europe it went from very little to meaningful marketshare,

That was because of the Wii, which did great numbers at this time. Xbox got their fair part as well
The fall of the PS was gigantic though. By far the biggest collapse of a brand in the history of videogames.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I dont think either were ever as big as Sony last gen.  But yeah they fell as far as you can possibly fall, so they are a bigger fall.

By pure size, no, but if you look at the Atari 2600 it was arguably the single most dominant console like ever. the rest of the market was sooo small and fragmented, that there where some console entries that barely moved a couple of thousand units during their lifetime.

The Atari was a dominant console in a tiny market.  Really tiny market. Sold about 30m I think, which is similar to the original xbox.  It was also a fresh and fast evolving, volatile world which hadnt yet set its path.  Apples and Oranges really.

It was THE ONLY gaming brand that existed, yet it still failed. Case closed.

What? What's going on in this site. Stop making things up people . Come on, The Dreamcast alone was a bigger fail than anything Sony has done. I bet you Vita does way better .

The PS3 was fucked by Sony with a huge price tag, realizing it almost 2 years after the Xbox 360 in Europe. Sony was cocky, so it backfired on them. But they made progress , they gave us great library of games. The PS3 has a huge comeback story to tell, soon though.

No one can disagree that the xbox brand has made outstanding progress overall.

But the OP title is way over the top. S.Africa, India??

Selling a handful of consoles in S.Africa is considered OUTSTANDING progress?

North South America and Europe - and even Japan is where the real progress was made.

With all these studios and IPS MS owns next Xbox will sell shitloads, i predict over 100M.

Xbox TV, Xbox Video, Xbox Music will be Huge, Next Xbox might Run a modified Version of Windows 8.5 or something like that.

It will be huge.

Microsoft should just pull out of Japan, because the 360 aint selling well over there for obvious reasons.
