Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Universal: "No Plans" to Abandon HD DVD

HD DVD's not dead ... yet.

Fending off continued speculation that Universal is mulling a switch from HD DVD-exclusivity, Universal Studios VP (and HD DVD Promo Group Co-Chair) Ken Graffeo says that the studio has no plans to make any changes in its high-def strategy.

In a just-published interview with BetaNews.com, Graffeo termed reports that Universal is wavering in its support of HD DVD as "unsubstantiated," saying the studio has "no plans to make any changes."

I suspect though that they will say this right up until the day before they stop being exclusive.

Warner said the same.

Warner definitely said the same.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

"by the way guys all the movies you can by on HD-DVD we'll be out on Blu-ray"

Not a very smart move on their part if they are going to change

I keep trying really hard to care about this format war but for some reason, I just can't.

Maybe it's a calcium deficiency.

Wow, I'm shocked, it's almost as shocking as Sony denying there will be a price cut or Konami saying MGS 4 is still and PS3 exclusive (although I do believe the last one)

Exactly what I thought when I looked at the title. :)

Good to see this site is still going

So What? you want them to recognize what? SONY pushed the BD format thanks to the PS3! That s all!
There are now for sure many more BD players thanks to this video game system.
My cousin has a little home video / cinema shop but is a general retailer. And with his competitors he says the same: He doesnt sell much more BD players than HD-DVD players.
And I am not sure companies like Panasonic or Samsung would be happy to see the SONY corp. taking the lead in the market of HD players!
All in all, it s the same problem with UNIVERSAL and PARAMOUNT and the other movie producers, in direct competition with SONY Pictures.
It s now sure that SONY corp is taking a broad lead over the overall movie market, from the format standard to the production. And I don t think it s a good idea for consumers in term of prices, for the other movie producers and for sure the video player constructors... Therefore, we even can t say whether the BD can live for a long time!
