For a generation going through a recession it turned out to be the most successful generation ever!
Every console was a huge success, there is no failures in the seventh generation. The Wii went on to set records and will just sell over a 100 million consoles, making it the highest selling home console by Nintendo. it's Microsofts second generation and after doing horribly the last gen they'll end up tripling the original Xbox sales when everything is all said and done. They also competed with the big guys and easily held it's own. Sony's PS3 released with a horrible $599 price tag and awful launch line up of games and yet it got turned around and sold 70 million so far showing us the biggest comeback in gaming history. It should also end close to 100 million sold which is on par with the original PS1.
The DS went on to do record numbers and sold incredible like all Nintendo handhelds, it should end up a little behind the PS2 making it the second highest selling gaming console ever with well over 150 million sold, just incredible. The PSP had severe competition and was riddle with piracy it could barely sell a game, but beyond all the odds the PSP should end anywhere from 75 - 80 million consoles sold, by far the biggest competition Nintendo has ever had against their handhelds.
All in all this gen is currently around 470 million video game systems sold, almost doubling last generation, it should end with over 500 million when the generation is over.
All gamers should rejoice, it doesn't matter what consoles you bought in the seventh gen, it was going to be well supported, have excellent games and sold very well, we should all be proud of the gaming industry, may we double the total sales for next gen aswell!
